  • Getting to know your enemy: The Toronto Maple Leafs

    Guest

Good morning Wilderness! I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend.

    Offensive threats

Kessel, Lupul, JVR, Kadri up front. The Leafs forwards are like a body builder who works out his arms, but never his chest; great wings and shit down the middle. Gardiner, Phaneuf, and Franson (if he's actually signed and not traded) from the blue line.

    Un-sung heros

    Coaching

Randy Carlyle believes that helmets can lead to concussion because, and I quote, "I have a theory on concussions," he said. "I think the reason there's so much more of them - obviously the impact and the size of the equipment and the size of the player - but there's another factor: everyone wears helmets, and under your skull when you have a helmet on, there's a heat issue. Everyone sweats a lot more, the brain swells. The brain is closer to the skull. Think about it. Does it make sense? Common sense?"

    Prospects

We're currently at #20 in our Top 25 Under 25 Prospects feature where we rank the best Leafs prospects under 25. This year, after the Top 5 it's pretty freaking bleak. There's a huge hole in prospect age due to the Toskala and Kessel trades.

How do you feel about the depth of your team?

Who are your fan favorites, and why are they favorites?

The bad players like Orr, Fraser, and McLaren. They are the favorites because hockey fans, by and large (and especially Leafs fans), are idiots.

Who are must follow writers on twitter for your team?

James Mirtle, Jonas Siegel. That's pretty much it. The rest suck.

Who are must follow fans? (preferably non-crazy fans)

Dangle and Jeffler are probably the most famous fanboys around. Fun fact, neither had put on ice skates in a hockey setting until this last year when we forced them onto the ice during a bloggers shinny game
