Perhaps the most compelling match-up of Hockey Day Minnesota features a rematch of last year's Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament finalists Lakeville North and Duluth East. Last March, the suburban Lakeville North squad defeated the now-hometown Duluth East 4-1 at the Xcel Energy Center to capture the state title and complete their perfect season. This marks the first time the teams have met since that game, and the tables have changed as the game has moved north to Bayfront Park.
Both teams fortunes have changed somewhat this season, but both are still ranked in the top 20 of LetsPlayHockey.com's state rankings with Lakeville North (14-5-1) at no. 8 and Duluth East (13-7-0) at no. 14 as of the Feb. 3rd. The Duluth East Greyhounds are led by senior forward Ash Altman's 33 points and the team's 3.95 Goals Per Game average. The Panthers of Lakeville North sport a whopping 5.35 Goals Per Game led by junior St. Cloud State commit Ryan Poehling. Neither team is a slouch on defense either, with both teams allowing less than 2.5 GPG.
Both Teams are looking for a strong finish to their final few games before heading to the state tournament in March.
Game Time: 1:00 p.m.
Where: Bayfront Park, Duluth, Minnesota
Watch: Fox Sports - North
