  • Dany Heatley Stats vs Minnesota Wild Leader Stats

    Guest

At the same time, there has been some doubt cast on just what the Wild have traded for, mostly from outside the ranks of Wild fandom. Questions about giving up Havlat, and his prowess in certain stat categories have hockey fans questioning if this was a good idea or not.

Make the jump for the full table.

    All stats from NHL.com

Using my quick (and likely incorrect) math, that puts Heatley at the top of 12 offensive categories, six of which Havlat led last season. Heatley did all of this on, what I am told, San Jose's second line. No offense to anyone involved with the San Jose second line, but they aren't Mikko Koivu.

By all reports this was a down year for Heatly. One in which he battled injuries, struggled... yes struggled... offensively, and played in a system that was moving toward a more defensive game.  Take a moment and soak all that in. Injured, struggling, and playing ina  defensive system and he still would have topped 12 offensive categories for the Minnesota Wild with the year he had.

If anyone tells you this was a bad trade for the Wild, or tells you that you should not be excited... tell them where they can go.
