There's no place like home and after having a surprisingly good road trip, the Minnesota Wild are back at The X and are hosting the Washington Capitals. Kaprizov gets to reunite with his childhood hero, Ovechkin, and two teams who want to be better than they currently are are colliding in some mediocre battle.

    When: 7:00 p.m. CT
    Where: Xcel Energy Center
    TV: Bally Sports North
    Radio: KFAN 100.3

    Projected Wild lineup

Kirill Kaprizov -- Marco Rossi -- Mats Zuccarello
Marcus Foligno -- Joel Eriksson Ek -- Matt Boldy
Marcus Johansson -- Ryan Hartman -- Pat Maroon
Brandon Duhaime -- Jake Lucchini -- Frederick Gaudreau

    Jonas Brodin -- Brock Faber
    Jake Middleton -- Dakota Mermis
    Alex Goligoski -- Zach Bogosian

    Filip Gustavsson
    (Jesper Wallstedt)

    Projected Capitals lineup

Max Pacioretty -- Dylan Strome -- T.J. Oshie
Alex Ovechkin -- Evgeny Kuznetsov -- Tom Wilson
Aliaksei Protas -- Connor McMichael -- Anthony Mantha
Beck Malenstyn -- Nic Dowd -- Nicolas Aube-Kubel

    Martin Fehervary -- John Carlson

Keeper of a game, overall, instant gratification.  But winning does not advance the long game of acquiring a big, fast, scoring center in the draft who can help convince Kirill to stick around after his contract expires.

I was gonna get this in as an intermission rip but got sidetracked. Either way, classic blunder, puck-watching on the Mantha goal.

Isn't Yurov playing some center now?

He's 6'1", and a scorer. Just needs a contract. Bankier and Kumpulainen have good size, though may not develop top end skill.

Kaprizov will be paid rather well to stick around and play with Yurov, and the Wild might even have cap space to sign a C for them if Yurov isn't playing C.

If the Wild win their next 2 over Nashville and Anaheim, Guerin is going to be thinking playoffs at the all-star break rather than lottery, so the new guy could be a mid-round pick rather than top 10.

Remember, winning always feels better than losing.  If you want to "hope" the team loses, that's totally fine.  But hey, seeing the team succeed and beat a team pretty decisively is better than watching games like Arizona or Dallas happen.  The players aren't just going to choke because we say they should.
