  • Gamethread: Wild at Capitals (6:00 p.m.)

If the Minnesota Wild could draw up a perfect opponent to shake off the icky stench that was caused by losing 6-2 to the Philadelphia Flyers, it would be the current day Washington Capitals.

Plainly, the Caps look absolutely brutal. Down at the bottom of the Metropolitan division with a 2-3-1 record, Washington has struggled in almost every major category that helps you win hockey games. Ovechkin had to will himself and shoot 14(!) shots on goal to get his first goal of the season on Tuesday -- and has scored his second since then -- but he suffered his first consecutive games without any shots earlier in the season. Something is off for the Capitals and it really feels like their entire purpose for the next few seasons is for Ovechkin to break the all-time goals record, and then winning can maybe be a bonus.

Now, the defensively inept Wild get to enjoy some relaxing play as the Caps have struggled heavily to get their season going and Minnesota could use any bonus right now.

Jujhar Khaira is coming out of the lineup and the Wild are going with 11 forwards and seven defensemen as Daemon Hunt gets to make his NHL debut. We are extremely stoked to see him!

Special teams is what it came down to ultimately. Shorthanded goal, PP goal for the Caps and a FAT goose egg for the Wild 0-5!! If any of those convert we’re walking out with 2pts.

This new coach needs to figure it out, he was supposed to be a good PP specialist but no results. What are we now like 0-15 on the last 15?

Yeah Boldy and Spurge are out but are they really that fragile and incapable without those guys?

The answer is yes. Their best defenseman and probably their 2nd or 3rd best winger hurts to lose.

i didn’t have very high hopes for this team this year. Still early but Id imagine they barely get into the playoffs or barely miss it.

    Thats being overly positive too.

How about the opportunities Dewzy continues to create?   Hartman el fuego right now.   Ok fine.  Put Dewzy on Rossi’s wing and give them Maroon for air cover.  Let’s see what happens!

Kind of with you on that.  Would opt for Foligno instead of Maroon though.  I like the idea, but I'd just prefer someone a little quicker on the ice than Maroon and feel like Foligno has a slight edge there.

At least, until things really start to click with this team, let's keep trying something else.

Chemistry that was there just may not be there anymore.  I can understand a little rust in the first few games, but being so inconsistent 1/8 of the way through the season when you've played with those same players for well over a hundred games... sometimes it's like they are all doing different things.

I feel like they could benefit from a LOT more practicing.  The team just looks out of sync with each other most of the time.
