Article: Artemi Panarin Isn’t the Rangers Player the Wild Should Be Targeting

Recommended Posts

What about Russo's comment that after getting taken to the woodshed by Theofanous on the Kaprizov negotiations, that he aint itching to go back to that well with Panarin?

Frankly, no way Theofanous allows Panarin to sign here for anything less than a ridiculous number in free agency, and the only way you give up good assets for Breadman is if you think you can extend him July 1st.

Agree with MrCheatachu.

Kaprizov has the same agent as Panarin, Paul Theofanous. He (Theofanous) nearly fucked us over in 2021 by holding out on Kaprizov’s resigning until September 22 (less than a month before season), and severely fucked us for the next 8 years by getting the current 8 yr/$136 million ($17 million per season) for a NOT-TOP-5 player. Panarin’s current contract is an albatross as well at $11.64 million AAV.

Theofanous is a greedy cuck and any resigning negotiation involving Panarin will doom the Wild into a rebuild that will last a decade. Going after Panarin means the Wild will become what the Rangers are today.

Stay away from Panarin. He’s an amazing player, but extremely over-valued and has a jerk of an agent.

I read a couple weeks ago that Hartman may be on the block.  Looks like there are rumors that Wally is being shopped as well.

https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/nhl-trade-rumors-jesper-wallstedt-mn-wild/

If that is the case the question becomes... who needs a goalie?  Edmonton?  Canes?  Flyers?  I wonder what Edmonton would be willing to give up for a top goalie... Wally would likely demand a mid-6 player and a 1st round pick to the Wild at a minimum.

Not saying I want to do it...Wally has been a stud in net... but picking up some needed assets would definitely open up options for a potential top 6 forward to come into the lineup.

Trading Wally would need to bring in a top line center and a first round pick to even be entertained.  Gus has been good, but the depth in the NHL leaves a lot to be desired.  I wouldn't want to put this team one injury away from starting Cal Peterson in the playoffs.  Yes, a trade for another goalie could happen, but I doubt we can get a goalie we would to comfortable with without over paying.

I'll riot in the streets if Wally goes to a contender this season.  The goal is for the Wild to go deep into the playoffs.  Trading Wally to a top contending team is going to be counter to that goal.

If Wally moves it's going to be a Spencer Knight-esque situation.  Panthers can move Knight to a team that they aint going to face in the playoffs anytime soon, and the Hawks get a stud goalie to build around

I have to admit that I would prefer it be Gus.  Wally has been spectacular.  He is also bigger, younger and moves the puck a little better.

We likely won't face Edmonton until the 3rd round.  Would be tough seeing Wally on the other side in the 3rd round.  The other option would be to send to the Canes or Flyers.  Flyers are a bubble team though and may not be willing to pay as much.  Whereas the Canes are in win now mode as well. May be able to get a lot from them.

Dallas will not be an easy out and they appear to be locked in as our 1st round battle royal.  I would give us about a 50/50 shot of getting past Dallas.

After that we face the Avs which (IMHO) I think we have a better chance of knocking them off than Dallas.

I see Edmonton coming out of the Pacific again... which we can beat if we have a fully healthy Brodin and Ek.

Will be a brutal road in the playoffs.  IMO if we can get past Dallas we make it at least to the conference final.  I'm looking forward to it..

If Panarin costs you a second (even a first) and say spacek- you have to do it

forget Trocheck - he is a hanzal

panarin is still a superstar

Kap Panarin Hughes Boldy

YIKES

Goddamnit what happened to you ODC? You are making too much sense lately. I only disagree on the Hanzal comparison. I think Trochek would make perfect sense for the top-line, and then Yurov can center a North Tsar 3rd line with Trenin and Vladdy.

I think if Panarin is available, even if only as a rental, you've absolutely got to make that trade if he wants to come here though.

The guy has a NMC, so that will extremely limit the return the Rangers can ask for. It shouldn't cost a ton to bring him in and the reward highly outweighs the risk of using him as a rental.

I mean Panarin and Kaprizov together? That would be insane. Then you could really redistribute the talent on the lines for the playoffs..

Panarin-Hartman-Kaprizov

Johansson-Ek-Boldy

Zuccy-Yurov-Vladdy

Trenin-Sturm-Foligno

Your topline is upgraded with more shooters for Kaprizov to set up. You still get your match-up line with the 2nd line, which is also good enough to score still. The 3rd line has offensive skill and could play in a more minute-sheltered role (to also help Yurov adjust) because the 4th line is absolutely a grinder line... and that's without even trying to add any center depth...

I can't see us trading him to the Oilers. For who?

If Wallstedt is traded, I would assume it'll involve a center. Maybe they get a 3rd team involved who needs a goalie and has better forward prospects to offer though?

I would also prefer to trade Gus than Wally but, regrettably, Gus has a NMC for the next two seasons. Wallstedt has no trade protection and is likely regarded as more valuable given his age and the flashes of potential he's shown this year.

I agree, Wally would likely have the higher return and a 3rd team would likely be needed.  Move Wally to a team that is competing to get the value and get players back from a team that is rebuilding.
