MNCountryLife Verified Member
Holy ouch Tom. We are still 4th in the entire league in points. The sky isn't falling quite yet. Ek is a top 6... not middle 6 center. I would classify him as better than the majority of 1Cs out there. He may be our most important player including over Hughes and Kirill. Brodin is one of the best shut down D-men in the entire league with elite skating ability. He may be playing 2nd fiddle to Faber and Quinn but he takes a back seat to nobody on that team when it comes to his defensive prowess. It certainly tells us that we can't just stroll out there and expect to win.. we have to give everything we got and play defense first. we get back to that and we should be okay.

Kevin Verified Member
Tom. Well written. No one who was not being fan-biased thought the Wild had a better club coming into this year than the last few years. Adding Hughes is so much fun but several players have regressed and our D is starting to look old outside of Hughes and Faber. The tweed jacket is starting to unravel and I'm not seeing anyone with the organization showing any major concern. This is a recipe for maintaining the Minnesota sports way of life. Mediocrity always finds us.....
OldDutchChip Verified Member
HAHA has this guy ever written an article with a positive outlook? Yeah we lost a few to a hungry NJ and WIN team. They needed it more than us, have a hungry team and we didn't counter properly - that's on us - we'll get better. This is NHL and it's a roller coaster - not a cruise to the end. I still stand by my call that we will beat stars in R1. We are still top3 in pts. Kap has yet to be Kap (likely due to cohesion and health). QH is still adjusting. Boldy is just starting his dominance (ascension to top 10 status). So yes - call out the last few games as duds. But to say we are tumbling like Jenga pieces is crazy. 5
Patrick Verified Member
Yikes! Overreacting much? However, Hynes is the definition of mediocre. He isn't the coach for this team. And...our "superstar" cares more about money and highlights than winning. What a terrible signing. On the other hand, Quinn Hughes is every bit the superstar that MN Wild fans think Kaprizov is. He is insanely good!
Enforceror Verified Member
Well, the Av's just lost to Nashville 7-3. Maybe their Jenga tower is swaying too. Also Panthers lost 9-1 yesterday. Point is....it's hockey. 3

Imyourhuckleberry Verified Member
Spacek and Jiricek now on the road trip together. Lambos sent back to AHL. IR for 3 of the Wild's top 7 contracts now--all players selected for Olympic teams. That usually doesn't bode well for the wins and losses. Gonna have to just try not to slide too far before the Olympic break. Likely to see Hunter Haight getting NHL time again this weekend. He and Aube-Kubel were both called up ahead of the road trip.

mnfaninnc Verified Member
Quote John Hynes’ decision to leave him in throughout the second period risks killing his confidence again. This had nothing to do with that risk, it had everything to do with not risking injury to Guus. Guus had in between periods to stretch back out and take some work. The game was pretty much done by that time anyway. Hynes played the long game. We need both 'tenders healthy to keep up in this condensed season. Giving the backup time to stretch out is one way of eliminating the risk of pulling something, the most likely injury for a goalie.
mnfaninnc Verified Member
I read in the national boards a couple of things. Cold water was thrown on the idea of adding Kotkaniemi as he is looked at to help land a player where the Canes lack depth. But, the other interesting read was what would Vancouver want for Pettersson the center? A 1st, a top-2 center, and another significant piece. Would this be the center for Kaprizov? Thinking on this, could Pettersson become Batman's new Robin? Zuccy won't last forever. Looking back at Tony's resource article, do we have those pieces? I would have to think that at this point, Jiricek (who I've gone to bat for a lot) might be that other piece. 2027 1st could be the pick. Then who? My first thought is that Hartman could be the center. Even with Hartman money going out, Pettersson being retained 50%, Vancouver is rebuilding and might need that retention for a cap floor. So, we'd be looking at a deficit of $1.75m if that could happen. But, problem is, Hartman's got a 15 team NTC, which I'm sure has Vancouver on that list. Would the possibility of Stramel going to Vancouver satisfy the center thing? It might be sneaky, but sending Stramel over and having him then not sign, become a free agent and resign with us would be a bit funny. Or, would someone like Benak, or Haight work? Wondering if a deal can be made.
