Article: David Kampf Isn't A Marco Rossi Replacement

Recommended Posts

Rossi's only to be out for a couple weeks.  Even if that, you can't tell me Haight or Jones can't fill in until Rossi and Sturm return.  Roll with what you have, and look to trade for a much higher target.

To be fair to Guerin, I don't think he will sign Kampf just cause he's there.  Roslovic was a FA for months and I doubt the offer was ever serious.  This might be another of those "due diligence" kinda things.

Here is a list of things that David Kampf simply does not do:

  • Drive offense
  • Score goals
  • Assist on goals
  • Skate on the ice at the same time as his teammates have scoring chances
  • trenin
  • foligno
  • bj
  • pitlick
  • rinse-senko
  • sturmnugget (inj)

We have enough of these types in lineup already

I'm a little confused over what this David Kampf thing is all about. Is he just an available UFA? You could sign him to a 2-way deal for depth, I suppose and have him split time in Iowa and St. Paul.

I have to agree with Luke, though, he is not what this team needs. Could he be signed as insurance in case Sturm has a setback? Is he better than Jones? It doesn't appear as though he has many knocks on his door. He's got a little size and can play on the 4th line. On a league minimum, extra salary in the minors deal, this could be done.

It's probably not what he wants to take, but getting something instead of nothing isn't the worst thing in the world.

Why does this organization seem allergic to finding RHS forwards?

Good article. I believe Kampf is available because he refused to go down to Ahl . I think on leafs talk they said he gave up 3 mill to get out of contract so he could go to another team and play in nhl. Anyways, I agree with article not something the wild should do.  Add another misfit to block kids.

He would not sign a 2 way deal otherwise the whole contract termination would have been pointless . It's all about him qualify for Czech Olympics team .So it's all about him doing enough NHL games to be visible

Then don't sign him.

Kampf was under contract with Toronto, they asked him to report to the Marlies and he said 'nah brah, if i'm not skating in the NHL at least loan me out to Czechia so I can get ready for the Olympics' and Toronto said 'yeah, but then we lose the ability to recall you if needed'

Toronto and Kampf maintained on good terms, and Kampf said 'i'll walk from the $3M contract as long as you dont claw back the signing bonus' and Toronto said 'gotchu bro, you're free'

So, Kamph walked away from $3M+ to avoid playing in the AHL.  Proposing to him that he'd do anything besides play for an NHL team seems like a non-starter.

Remember this is basically the same team that Jack McBain looked at our center depth of Hartman, Ek, Gaudreau and Rossi and said 'I aint going to break into that elite roster.'  I never thought it made sense since Kampf would have looked at Rossi/Ek/Hartzy/Yurov/Sturm and probably had the same thoughts.

All moot now anyways, he signed for the Vancouver.

But let's get the Brayden Shenn to MN rumor mill churning...

Great Article.  Hits home as to where the real problem for this team resides.  We are short at least two top 6 forwards that can be primary scoring depth... not secondary scoring.  BG either needs to trade for them, which is unlikely or we way over pay for them.... or internally from our youth,  which requires playing these young kids.  Something BG has been hesitant to do.
