Article: Did John Hynes Make A Valid Point About Minnesota's Lack Of Toughness?

Recommended Posts

Lets take a moment to pause and reflect that Hartman has 4 PIM through 14 games, and I remember one of those being a BS tripping penalty...knock on wood but maybe he's figured something out here.

If you break down the wild's PIM it appears they have 3 majors and 33 minors (91 minutes) compared to Philly's 6 majors and 52 minors.  I'd take away from this that the wild are playing disciplined.

I'll buy the hit's argument, since they're one of the slowest teams in the league who also can't shoot, if you're not going to body somebody, it's gonna be a long night.

Sad but true…

Scoring is number ONE priority in hockey

As Jaromir Jagr already said hockey without scoring

is just "figure skating"

So toughness alone doesn't help anyone

I don't believe that body checking means you can't be disciplined. Taking the man is a basic hockey skill, doing it in a legal way is exactly what you want. Stopping someone's momentum should be the default defensively. Even big hits can be done with legally, just don't target the head.

What really pisses me off are the little ticky tack stick infractions. Sure, you're going to ride you stick up someone else's once in awhile, or get a slash for breaking someone's stick, but the little hooks and lazy trips are horrible. This is where I think Philly is at, undisciplined stick infractions.

Mr. Cheatachu, when looking and separating out the majors and minors, were you able to also separate out offsetting penalties?
