Article: The Wild Need A Malkin And Letang To Truly Contend

How do you propose we acquire one then? I totally agree that we need help in the dot, and I'm not opposed to a wing who is good at faceoffs taking the draws. For instance, on the top line, if Boldy is a faceoff beast, just have him take the draws.

Honestly the only way you truly can get one is draft in the Top 5.  Which I doubt the Wild will every be that bad.  They appear to do just enough to be middle of the pack.  Trading for that type of a pick would be about as rare as Minnesota having a championship from a professional men's team.  So basically hope and pray that someone blossoms late or the draft is extremely deep.

Based on the very short research I did, this is false. Only around 50% of the top faceoff guys are top 5 picks. One thing that is consistent with these players is that they are older. This would suggest that the faceoff skill is taught rather than instinctive. Could this be the final "skill" that Ek improves on?

If this skill gets better with age, and is learned, wouldn't it seem like you could teach it to younger kids and watch them improve quicker? Or, is it really not that big of a deal? Listening to Lou Nanne last season, he's convinced it is. Rossi seems to want to learn as he worked with Joe Thornton in the offseason on this skill.
