0 Stanley Cups Verified Member
Thank goodness! I'm fine with the $3-4M overpay for him to stay in MN, the salary cap is rising the next two years anyway. 7

Without question there will be a lot of teams who use the cap increases much better than the Wild. I hope I'm wrong but looks like we'll be stuck in the middle for awhile again, unless they can figure out the draft and development. 2

Patrick Verified Member
I can't wait to watch him dominate for 45 games a year for the next 5 years and then completely drop off because his play style won't age well. Huge mistake. Record breaking contract by 20% for the 10th best player in the NHL. So very stupid. If his M.O from day 1 was win a cup you'd think he would've signed a more team friendly deal for a big TDL or FA acquisition in the next couple years. I know, I know, the cap is going up but still. Kap NEEDS to stay healthy and productive for this contract to not look like a boat anchor in years 6-8 even with the cap increase.
MNCountryLife Verified Member
That is a big jump over other contracts. I'm glad he signed but that is a clear overpay. Will make it more difficult to sign other players. Let's hope Kirill can play like McDavid and stay healthy or this team won't make it to the 2nd round.
MNCountryLife Verified Member
$17M/AAV. Wow. I wonder if McDavid will ask for $18, $19 or $20.

Kirill is always injured and doesn't play full seasons so he is overpaid. 2. How are we going to put together a team with him taking up so much cap space? 3. He will be 37 by the time the contract expires and his injury history and style of play means the backend of the contract is going to look really bad for the last 4 years. 2 2

He won’t because he knows he won’t win a cup if he does after that. 3
MNCountryLife Verified Member
Just getting out of 2 bad contracts .... Feels like we just added 1 really bad contract. Kirill will be 29 when this kicks in. He is as good as he will get.... and injuries usually increase with age. I hope Kirill proves me wrong.

Could hear the laughs and taunts all the way from Edmonton if he signs for less. Would prove to me that McD is more serious about a cup than Kaprizov.

The NHL player's union won't let him sign for less--or will at least pressure him to sign for max because it affects everybody else's contracts.

No one his hoping and praying that Haight can contribute THIS SEASON more than Pud Brackett. Yurov will be up and down to Iowa all season (apparantly he's got the KHL out clause thru his entire ELC) and Ogz is Trenin 2.0, so it's on you now Hunter.

Now that is a scary statement. Corruption in the NHLPA to ensure others get paid. I could see it happening as well.

While there are kernel's of truth in this post, the State of Hockey simply cannot let a player of 97's caliber go. He had to be retained at whatever cost. 1

I gotta think he'll be a more productive Slap Nuts (zuccy) during the last 4 years. Expensive yes, but still a top 6 contributor.
mnhockeyfan03 Verified Member
Huge overpay. No cup coming to MN with a contract like that for Kap. Going to be cheering for Colorado now. At least they have a chance. Wild front office a bunch of idiots

You think he has a chance to make the roster this year? I thought Trenin was one of our best players last year against Vegas and has looked great in camp. I'm hopeful he continues this productivity. For me the Ogz comparison to Trenin is a compliment.

There's no chance that is true. There are guys taking team friendly deals all over the place, but McDavid cannot do it, and he's forced to never win a title? Makes no sense.
