Imyourhuckleberry Verified Member
Notes from The Athletic today: Notes on Trenin changing his diet to lose weight and improving his skating: Quote Trenin also worked with a power skating coach to get faster, and it’s been noticeable in camp how much quicker the Russian winger is moving. He showed it off in Sunday’s exhibition overtime victory over the Winnipeg Jets, scoring two goals, including the winner. “I wanted to drop a certain amount, and I came back to camp, and I see Marco (Rossi) looks so big to me,” Trenin said, laughing. “I’m like, I’ve got to stop somewhere.” Notes from Hynes on Ohgren: Quote “His speed is a factor, he’s tenacious on pucks and he’s got a great shot,” Hynes said. “He’s a little bit more mature — a little bit more comfortable. He’s in fantastic shape. He has a better idea of how we want to do things. And he’s playing with that tenacity and the mindset that he wants to come in and earn a job. Notes on Jiricek from Russo and Joe Smith: Quote Jiricek focused on his skating, especially his pivoting and one-on-one battles, showing up in early August to spend time with the Wild’s skating and strength and conditioning staff. There seems to be an opportunity for Jiricek to make the team out of camp as the third-pair or extra defenseman, and that’s been his goal.

NoJoSux Verified Member
Dallas top two lines are NHLers and 5 of 6 defensemen, looks like. MN has their top line slated as Yurov with Trenin and Vinnestroza again. Otherwise, Leason and Aube-Kubel are MN's vets with Ogie. Should be interesting to see Heidt and RasmuKampu play together. Like to see Yurov score and Trenin keep the momentum going. If those guys get some confidence and build on a good start, it could be huge for MN this season.

Every step in the hockey ranks is a big step.

I think he's been skating, but not involved in team skating activities since day 1. 1

I will be listening to Joe trying to identify some of these guys without asking Tom "who was that guy?"

I have Fanduel so I think I get the game on Thursday. Youtube has the Jets highlights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZOZCV1PARI If you google mn wild vs dallas stars the tv option shows ESPN. Clearly wrong. I go to ESPN and check the schedule and nothing is listed. Probably have to watch the highlights the morning after.

Imyourhuckleberry Verified Member
Stars really are playing with nearly the full starting roster. Of their 10 skaters who are paid over $2.5M per season, just Wyatt Johnston is missing the game. #1 goalie, Oettinger, also playing. Not sure if he was screened on the power play goal against, or if it deflected off a defenseman on the way in. Looking at the highlight, Jiricek fired it from out near the blue line.
NoJoSux Verified Member
Cal Peterson playing good. Yurov winning draws pretty well this far. Nice work. He must have noticed what we notice.

NoJoSux Verified Member
Jiricek's one-timer was hard and on target. Fortunate it went in cause only Stars defenders were standing there but that shot would look good with Ek or Foligno standing at the top of the blue paint too.
mnhockeyfan03 Verified Member
Very solid period. This team will be better off without Kaprisov. We don’t need that high salary restricting us. Get 2-3 solid guys in return and let the kids play. They are hungry and hustle. Great periods by Lambos, Ohgren, Jiricek, Height, Yurov, Trenin, Vinny. Also Peterson in goal was very good. Trade Kap and McNugget(zuccy) now!

If #97 was to be traded, which teams could offer a fair return? Realistically, I'm not sure there's too many or that the timing is great. If MN looks good going towards the deadline and Kaprizov still isn't signed, that's not great timing either. It would be sweet if McDavid takes a team-friendly deal and diminishes Kirill's number and Kaprizov stays in MN with a team that looks really good around Thanksgiving/Christmas. NoJoSux Verified Member
I'd be cool with like a 3-year/$50M deal. Get a few more of the best years, no long-term risk or commitment. Keep the WIld's window going and leave Kirill a chance to get another nice one as the salaries evolve.
