Article: Minnesota Wild Trim Training Camp Roster to 52

Recommended Posts

Notes from The Athletic today:

Notes on Trenin changing his diet to lose weight and improving his skating:

Quote

Trenin also worked with a power skating coach to get faster, and it’s been noticeable in camp how much quicker the Russian winger is moving. He showed it off in Sunday’s exhibition overtime victory over the Winnipeg Jets, scoring two goals, including the winner.

“I wanted to drop a certain amount, and I came back to camp, and I see Marco (Rossi) looks so big to me,” Trenin said, laughing. “I’m like, I’ve got to stop somewhere.”

Notes from Hynes on Ohgren:

Quote

“His speed is a factor, he’s tenacious on pucks and he’s got a great shot,” Hynes said. “He’s a little bit more mature — a little bit more comfortable. He’s in fantastic shape. He has a better idea of how we want to do things. And he’s playing with that tenacity and the mindset that he wants to come in and earn a job.

Notes on Jiricek from Russo and Joe Smith:

Quote

Jiricek focused on his skating, especially his pivoting and one-on-one battles, showing up in early August to spend time with the Wild’s skating and strength and conditioning staff. There seems to be an opportunity for Jiricek to make the team out of camp as the third-pair or extra defenseman, and that’s been his goal.

Dallas top two lines are NHLers and 5 of 6 defensemen, looks like.

MN has their top line slated as Yurov with Trenin and Vinnestroza again. Otherwise, Leason and Aube-Kubel are MN's vets with Ogie. Should be interesting to see Heidt and RasmuKampu play together.

Like to see Yurov score and Trenin keep the momentum going. If those guys get some confidence and build on a good start, it could be huge for MN this season.

Stars all in tonight, playing a lot of their big guns against our JV squad. This gonna be brutal...

This is good.  The JV squad needs to know the bar to achieve to be a legitimate NHL player.  Every step in the hockey ranks is a big step.

Anyone know why Buium isn't playing?

Took a puck to the hand on day 1 of training camp. Sounds like he'll play Thursday.

I knew it was an "upper body injury", but the more specific details are really nice to have. I think he's been skating, but not involved in team skating activities since day 1.

i wish it was televised tonight but alas it is only on in the Texas market. I will be listening to Joe trying to identify some of these guys without asking Tom "who was that guy?"

Yeah... I wish they were all broadcast on just one channel.  I have Fanduel so I think I get the game on Thursday.  Youtube has the Jets highlights.

If you google mn wild vs dallas stars the tv option shows ESPN.  Clearly wrong.  I go to ESPN and check the schedule and nothing is listed.  Probably have to watch the highlights the morning after.
