Article: Report: Wild Have Not Asked Kirill Kaprizov For Trade List, Yet

I’m in the ’where there’s smoke there’s fire’ opinion.

97 rejected the max offer.  Fine.  Most optimistic take is that he wants shorter term.  That point can be made in the same meeting they reject the initial offer.  Easy peezy.  But we haven’t heard anything yet.
Then the specifics of offer get leaked.  I believe this is to prep suitor’s on what their starting AAV should be while 97 and agent hold a low key auction.  And now we hear wild asking for trade list while bill has nothing to say except belly aching about how everyone is mean to him on the 10K podcast (10K?!?!)

Meanwhile we’ll get to listen to bill blame everyone else, and Brackett is the patsy.

Best case we find that this is just the click bait mafia doing what they do best.  Worst case, bill gets a third five year plan and we watch a lineup full of neideritter’s (ogz) and Coyle’s (Stramel) for near future

He might actually take much less (team friendly) from another team if they are closer to contending. Whether he wants a shorter term or to get out, it's obvious he doesn't have a lot of faith in the organization to commit long term. Not even money can change that.

I did some digging this morning about what the Wild have done standings wise going back since the Gaborik years.  I think what I found was the years the Wild had the best offenses, it wasn't just Gaborik or Kap.  It was Gaborik AND Rolston, Demitra, etc.  It was Parise, Suter, AND Granlund/Staal.  Last time, it was Kap and Fiala going 108/85 in the same season.  Defense and goaltending have stayed relatively stable in the Top 5-15 league wide, barring Gus and Fleury's bad year a couple years ago.

I think Kap is a very good reason for the team's offense.  But I am not convinced anymore that he should be $16-$20m reasons.

I maintain that the depth scoring has to improve.  Get those 30-40s up to 45-60s floors so the 2nd/3rd lines are a bit more impactful.  Loading everything in the Kap basket might prevent that.  I think you can do that without sacrificing defense.  Hynes's system IS defense first, but not so clamped down the top offensive guys didn't find the net.  It's just middling to iffy 20-40 point players being all they've had to work with.  Most other teams seem to spread the wealth in the 50-70s.

Results will lag a bit, but now we've got some young, talented players coming into the N with more on their way. We won't have to rely on players with career years at 40 points. These guys have the potential for that to be their floor.

I really hope Kaprizov gives this group of guys a chance to go on a run. I did read some interesting opinions on teams that he could go to. What I found really interesting was they talked about the nice young players in the organization, but little about the return cost. They're not getting Kaprizov for 4 1sts. They're going to have to pony up some of those bright young stars.

To me, Anaheim looked like an interesting option with McTavish unsigned and some great young talent there. Montreal has a lot of young guys too and are very interested.

But, I think if Kaprizov had more help in secondary scoring, we could get out of a couple of rounds. The top line was really good against Vegas. The trouble was lines 2,3 were not. Line 4 barely played but chipped in a couple of goals and should have been played more. I'm excited about the crop of rookies, they're finally ready to go!

Now, let's just say that we did need to trade him. With this young group, and some younger guys already established, I think adding to that '20-23 draft class of players would be the way to go. I think we're fine defensively, so, I think 2 young really good players + high prospect + 2 1sts is what Guerin should shoot for. Is Kaprizov worth that? Yes, and it would assure them of not having competition signing him longterm.
