Citizen Strife Verified Member
The sheer amount of hype around Buium is mind-boggling. All-Star, top offensive defenseman, elite: those are almost never words to describe Minnesota players, much less defensemen. I waited to see whether Kaprizov was worth all the hoopla. It took him all of one game. I shudder to think the transformative effect Buium would have if he comes anywhere close to his potential.
mnfaninnc Verified Member
There are several good looking rookies for this year, but we could have 3. There is a scenario where we could sweep the nominations, but to do that, the team must really overperform. Yurov, Buium or The Wall could do it, but I'd love to see all 3 nominated.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Ohgren snuck in and grabbed it? 1
1Brotherbill Verified Member
Buium, Ohgren, and Wallstedt are going to get time for Minnesota this year. Wallstedt has a very remote shot at winning the Calder. If he does the team will be having truly an amazing season. Buium has a legit shot at winning the award. He will probably be on Power Play one as the QB. He will have to put up 60 to 65 points in order to have a shot. Demidov and Snuggerud are probably going to score a ton for their teams. Ohgren might have more points that Buium at the end of the season and play top six minutes for a good chunk of the season. But even if he scores more than all rookies I don't know if he would get the votes to win. The award is based on popularity, look at Connor Bedard. Bedard won the award based on popularity where as Faber played the entire year was top ten in minutes, near zero on the plus minus, played his position like a veteran. Yet Bedard won because of politics. So, it appears that everyone loves Buium, which will help him a lot.
