Article: Wild Reportedly Sign Marco Rossi To 3-Year Contract

Rossi's agent is a tool, but let's face it... he just helped the Wild be a more competitive team and just improved our chances to win a cup at his client's expense.

But... I'm sure this will be squandered by BG overpaying some has been.

It’s amazing to me how many people on here have zero understanding of RFA yet still make comments about it. Rossi & his agent had zero leverage in this negotiation, the wild held all the cards. Only way he was ever getting close to the 7 million range was if someone offer sheeted him & we saw how that turned out.

Yea, because no RFA's ever get long term deals close to $7M without an offer sheet.

5M/year, Get that man a bandit mask and a flour sack with a big dollar sign on it.  Highway robbery.  Rest of you are lamenting him getting the short end of the stick. Here comes the “Itoadaso” when he’s sweating in his locker stall, 20 games in, with microphones in his face asking him what he thinks he needs to do to finally start putting points up. Answered with a shrug and some Austrian pidgin English.  Guerin will look like Glen Sather having only pissed away 5M/year of that Johnson Wax money.  Can’t wait to see what kind of puck bag and what flavor or Gatorade premix they get for him at the trade deadline. It’ll be a win even the bag is gently used and the premix is expired.  Ish more hollow-boned Eurotrash. No skating, no hitting just more floating.  Bah, humbug

That was almost a coherent response. Maybe you should stop huffing lead paint. It’s obviously not been very good for you. Are you ODC in disguise or his brother/friend?

You’re obviously not aware he was second on the team in points as a second year player. Are you aware how absolutely ridiculous you sound?

Good bridge deal. Rossi can have another good year and the Wild get another kick at the can. A healthy Wild team with chemistry is pretty good.

Remember the first game against Winnipeg last year?

The Wild will be deeper this year with some more potent young weapons. I like the mix.

Rossi probably feels a bit slighted (and he was), but this sure puts the Wild in a nice cap position over the next few years.  Let's sign Kap and play some hockey.

Was he slighted though?  The other contracts you hear referenced have higher AAV, but most of them are 7 year deals where the last 4 seasons are probably paying around $8M per year. If the Wild want to retain Rossi's services through the 4th season of restricted free agency, the minimum they could pay him is $5.25M per season--4th year has a $6M minimum now.

His next deal could be around $9-10M if he really shines, so he could end up with more dollars than what's being attributed to many of the players that people are bringing up. If Rossi's next deal after these 3 seasons is for 4 years at $8.5M per season, then the total will be $7M per season, but there's a chance he gets more than that because he didn't lock into a long-term deal.

The salary cap escalating is a lot of what makes those deals sound so much better for the players, but this isn't some horrible deal for Rossi. There certainly is the downside that he possibly doesn't get a contract worth more than this AAV in the future, but if that's the case, then he was never worth $7M to begin with.
