Johnson is truly a break glass in case that Lambo makes a fool of himself in training camp with the big club. 4

Still your job to lose Lambo 2

Some of the things talked about up above on his scouting report were present. He looked bigger and stronger than the previous year. I'm betting he will be even stronger coming into camp, especially with a roster spot on the line. I was very impressed by both Lambos and Spacek when I saw them live last season. Lambos was able to skate with just about anyone. They were playing a team that greatly outclassed them, yet, Lambos still had a good game. I remember 1 play where he was surrounded by defenders and quickly stickhandled his way out of it in a phone booth's area. He did lose a guy who scored, but as I remember it, he kind of had to guard 2 guys on the play. Overall, he looked better than his stats would suggest. At the time, he was underwater in the +/-. By the end of the year he had changed that to a +. There were not many + guys in that lineup. Another thing I didn't see from him was taking chances and getting caught up ice. I could see him and Jiricek as a pair, and I think they played some together in the A last season. I don't think he'll be lost as a 3rd pairing option, and I think his upside is top 4. Yes, it seems like a long time in prospect mode for Lambos, but let's remember he had 1.5 years lost due to covid, so he probably had a lot further to go in development. When he was chosen in the 1st round, Judd had him ranked in the early teens, but Lambos had a brutal draft year. I think he'll be as effective as Chissy was before he got the yips just to start out.

I'm of the opinion that when we open the season with a sack of potatoes from KwikTrip on the third pair, us fans will say 'welp, at least it isnt Johnson'
1Brotherbill Verified Member
You really can't throw out the fact he was a 1st round draft pick. Because that was exactly what he was. However, you can say he can be a solid third pair guy this season. That isn't a terrible thing. Think about the potential of the Wild's defensive core going forward. Faber, Buium, Jiricek, Lambos those four if their expected talent and skill shows up on the ice that will be a very solid top 4. If the Wild keep Spacek and he makes it to St. Paul along with Masters. The Wild have a solid young defensive core that could be around for a decade or more.
