Article: Liam Ohgren Is Bulking Up In Preparation for Wild Season

What I noticed about OgZ last season was that he was essentially a slot hockey player. He went into the boards and corners trying to pick pucks loose and dig them out. This was not the scouting report on him, he was supposed to be physical. But, the N has bigger guys!

What I liked about him was sometimes when players, bigger players, tried to hit him, they simply bounced off of him. This was a bit like the Greenway affect. But that does not = physicality. Now, OgZ was big enough to physically dominate in the A, just not the N.

He also has a reputation of being a gym rat with a father who is an athletic strength trainer. If he told his dad "I need 20 lbs. of strength this offseason" while this is a very hard task, I'll bet his dad had a plan to complete it. OgZ looks ripped but still has room to widen which should happen between 21 and 23.

I'm anticipating we see a motivated OgZ this training camp. My only wish is that he had taken some younglings with him to participate in this program. Perhaps Rossi visited him this summer? If OgZ comes into camp at 210, he will definitely have the attention of Heinzy and Shooter!

Essentially, based upon what we've done this offseason, the majority of improvement must come internally. This is a great way to help that. Hopefully, he's also had time on the ice to work on his edge work and acceleration!

It's insane to me that there are rumors that Dallas would be shopping Robo, the 26 year old 6'3, 210 lb guy who's going to be an RFA when his contract expires.

The guy who's been damn near ppg player the past 3 seasons (80 points in 82 games the past two seasons) who's 6'3, and 210 lbs and been over 40 goals twice in his career.

Especially with the cap going up, I don't see how they cant fit him in even going to arbitration with him until the Seguin contract falls off.

Here is the quote this story was pulled from:

"I would imagine that Kirill Kaprizov gets a deal north of what Leon Draisaitl got from the Edmonton Oilers. I would ballpark somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 years times $15 million. That's just a guess. No matter what, it's going to be a significant, significant deal, the richest in Minnesota Wild history. So, take that part to the bank. And, obviously, they're working away on that deal."

In other words, nothing signed yet, and really nothing new.

The rumor is that Robertson is looking for a Rantanen size contract. If they give him that, the stars would have 4 Fwds, 2 D, and 1 G take up 50% of the cap space in the 2027-2029 years. Rantanen and Robertson alone use 20%.

That could make filling out a roster tough.

Every guesstimate can get a click and generate revenue. I guess that matters in the slow summertime news cycle...

Nothing reported from PuckPedia or The Athletic. Russo actually put out a Podcast yesterday and extrapolated on why he had said they weren't close to having a contract done, primarily because Kaprizov is still in Russia.

Speculation becomes news in the current age of sports reporting, and I'm not a fan of that change. Just look at what had happened with "Aaron Rodgers likely becoming the starting QB for the Vikings in the upcoming season". For those who might not have followed NFL at all, he's signed to the Steelers now after never receiving an offer from the Vikings.

Seguin's $9.85M falls off that season.  Also, Seguin's had 2 hip surgeries in the past 5 years along with getting his knee scoped.

Assuming they can somehow make it through 26/27 with both Harley & Robo needing new deals (Both going to be RFA's though) the cap will be $113M in 27/28.  Cap for the 26/27 season is going up $8.5M to $104M so you should be able to get at least one of those deals done and send the other guy to arbitration...not saying taking a guy to arbitration isn't going to screw you during the next contract negotiation, but Rantanan/Hintz/Heiskinen/Johnson/Robo and Otter sounds like a pretty scary core to have locked up

Agreed.  I pretty much just check PuckPedia for signings or trades.

I did not include Seguin in my cap total. I only considered the players you listed, with Robo @ $12 mil, and added Lindell because he is signed until 2030. With those contracts, you have 7 players that take up over 50% of your cap space in 27-29.

That is a scary core, but the team depth will probably fall off drastically with the remaining cap to add 14+ players.

Not to mention what they need to pay Harley next year.
