Article: Is Next Season A Make Or Break For Carson Lambos?

The main reason they may want Lambos in the AHL this year is that they'll likely have a couple other rookies as NHL defensive mainstays and they'll want to continue giving Lambos heavy developmental minutes as a top pairing D-man there, but that +5 from last season is meaningful to me.

The Wild called him up to take a look at him last year and I will not be surprised if he gets some 3rd pairing NHL minutes this year once they get into the season and guys get banged up a bit. Seems like he's getting close.

Columbus selected Corson Ceulemans 1 pick ahead of the Wild in 2021 and he has been in the AHL for 3 seasons now with zero NHL games, so the Wild aren't the only ones using the AHL to develop their defensemen. There are a handful of others drafted behind them getting more NHL minutes, but not many who are seeing significant minutes for "playoff teams".

+5.

In Winnipeg (jrs.) Lambos had some very positive +/- stats too. This stat should really stand out. For comparison, David Spacek, who had a breakout season offensively, yet was a -17. This whole team had some really bad  -players.

For Lambos to sneak out with a +5, which he really did in the last 20 games, is a win for him. Who cares about the points he puts up, if he's doing his job properly and we score more goals while he's on the ice than goals scored against us. Maybe he's the 3rd assist on a lot of plays? Maybe he's that glue that holds the whole line together?

When I saw him, he seemed to have a calmness with the puck in traffic and he seemed to break the puck out pretty well. My memory is a little foggy but I thought he put a couple of nice stretch passes together too.

I'm also high on Lambos and Spacek, and believe they will become good solid defenders. I do think that Lambos has a better shot at top 4 than Spacek, though.

Although I’m not in the locker room, so therefore I don’t know except this one thing Bill I think you’re doing awesome and I like and understand why you made the move you have made in the last four or five years I personally think you’ve done a great job for what you’ve had to work with and made very good choices for the most part in my opinion, that’s all anybody can ask for press on I do want you to know I hate losing though
