The more time I have had to think on this move, I am starting to come around.  It will all depend on what else we do, but if we are now out  on any of the top UFA’s, and let’s be honest, there wasn’t a lot there unless we were going to overpay, we should have some space around the tdl to do something.

this only makes sense if it makes kap happy and is the last pre-req for his signature on the contract. otherwise i just don't see the point. vlady is done. he has no game left. unless he really was just checked out the last 2 years - i think i'd rather have nyquist back. that is how bad vlady has played. i changed my mind - i think a 45 year old kovy would be better than 33 year old vlady.

It's an interesting deal. Guerin could be positioning for something bigger? The price is not great compared to NoJo, that's true. It does seem like Tarasenko had a down year. 

There's more jam with Tarasenko and recent success with FL is superior to NoJo's recent resume. 

Spending but not surrendering assets is an okay way to pick up a two-time Cup winner and scorer.

The hopes for bounce back are

1. His father passed away at 55 years old last summer
2. He wasn't a good fit in Detroit got pushed down to the 4th line

If the depth chart puts Boldy-Rossi-Senko on the 2nd line, it means MoJo is pushed down to 4th/depth duty and all Tarasenko has to do to be successful is improve on the production from MoJo.  Which reading comments on this site, could be done by a lukewarm microwave burrito.

A couple random thoughts..... 

 

I have seen two mentions in this thread of flipping him for a pick at the deadline.  Hogwash.  EVERYBODY who pays attention knows that if we are within 10 pts of a playoff spot, Billy is a buyer looking for more old tired players.

Second, I don't hate it.  He is at least a has been instead of a never was.  But 33 is not ancient.

Lastly, nearly all of this news is pointless until the extend Kaprisov.  Why is this not done already?

i don't know - i don't see any hope this goes well. sure i'd rather have vlady on one year than Boeser on 8 year contract, but what can we honestly expect from vlady other than being a slighty more skilled nyquist? he has lost what little physicality he had and has no speed anymore.

well, there's a reason they play the games instead of declaring the winner of next season's stanley cup during the offseason based on a combination of statistics and vibes.

Marner just signed with Toronto, but no trade protections.  Guessing we will hear about a trade to Vegas soon.

Lot's of Sturm rumors floating around today. I'm with MNfan on this one, he'd be helpful to have and it's a cheap contract. That being said, what does that mean for Yurov, Rossi, and/or Hartman? Ek-Rossi-Sturm-Yurov? 

Dev camp starting today, hopefully we start getting some feedback on Yurov (if he's there).

Saw on NHL.com that the Wild made qualifying offers to Rossi and Milne today. Anxiously awaiting to hear the numbers on the Rossi offer.

If you make the finals three years in a row and win back to back, does that give you a free pass to sign a 37 year old to a five year deal at $5.4M AAV? This site would have blown up if GMBG would have inked a deal like that. Especially for a 5'9" 180 lb guy!

No QO on 2nd rounder Ryan O'Rourke.  He of the vaunted 2nd ranked prospect pool.  Hunt GONE, O'Rourke TOAST, Khuz GONE, Rossi would be GONE is bill could find a taker.  

Looking at you Ogz & Lamda Lamda Lamda.  Can you save Brackett's job?  Or are we just going to watch this pud draft AHL defensemen year after year after year.

Already assuming Yurov is 2nd coming of Mogilny and Wall-E is Gilles Meloche 2.0
