Citizen Strife Verified Member
A point in the Wild's favor is an idea Russo brought up several times: playing without a contract and pulling a Gaborik and losing money. The Wild are in the best position and need to break the bank for this guy ($14-16m). The agent and player both know he's pretty much a god on roller skates for this franchise. Any other, he's just "the next star player." Even if he doesn't sign the career ending contract, you would still get Kap's prime locked up if they do 3-4. Something tells me they'd still they would still be leaving money on the table risking short term. Scalptrash Verified Member
Tough decision for Kaprizov, security or championship. Considering how much time he misses due to injuries, he'd be wise to sign a 8x$15M deal to finish his career with the Wild. If he wants a legitimate chance at a cup, he will have to go elsewhere. I have said this a few times before, but I would trade him now, while he's still worth something. The player the Wild would get in return would be near the same skill, and they would gain additional cap space to get another very good top six player. I have nothing against him, but if the Wild are ever going to be serious about winning a cup, they can't mortgage their future on one guy. Especially if he misses large chunks of the season. How about adding Marner, Tavares, Ehlers, and maybe Knies too. They could probably do a sign and trade for Marner and include Tavares. I'm sure Tavares and Marner would love to stay together. Add in Spurgeon and Rossi to include Knies. Yes, it is possible....think bigger. Just a fun wish list, but the kind of thing that could be done if the fans and organization weren't so in love with specific players.

There is no logic there unless it's to keep our superstar and keep him happy. Give him another comrade. i would much preferred one that can still actually play though..... If we are keeping him, we won’t have enough money for Rossi and Boeser or Ehlers, unless we get them at a discount. What if this is an indicator of a another move happening? take away a spot from Trenin or Vinnie? He plays RW so doesn't affect NoJo, but what do they have in the way of guys who play RW? After Boldy and Zucc who is left? Maybe Hartman is he bumps out there for Yurov to take the center? Upside, its a one year, so him and Zuc drop off next year opening up over 8 mil plus NoJo makes 9. Haight is listed as a RW but is only 21, Vlad used as a possible place holder for the year if Haight steps up to get a spot 2nd half of year or next year as he is probably our best RW prospect? Not a big fan but with the RW prospect pool seemingly lacking I guess it makes sense looking at the lineup and prospect pool. Just glad they gave up "future assets" and not something that actually matters. Just don't do something dumb and sign him to an extension.

Billy doesn’t seem to know how to make trades or out top prospects aren’t really worth what we think they are . Way to save money bill. It gives him the opportunity to cash in on the cap increasing and has an out if Billy can’t build a winner in 4 years.

Protects us from 8 years of abdomen/groin triage and gives 97 an out if this thing continues to slide sideways

This will really put the pressure on Billy to win in the next 2-3 years. I don’t want Kap for 7-8 years. To hard to predict that far out. Who merely suggested, that that could be an option. And that was more as a way to put pressure on the organization to compete. As it stands, if Kaprizov takes a short-term contract. He isn't taking advantage of the increasing cap at all. Quite the opposite, in fact. Keep in mind, if Kaprizov wants to get the full potential of $110-120M contract. The only time he could get that much total on a contract is right now. Especially with the new cap increases. With the changes to the CBA, and the reduced term lengths that players can sign for starting next year. Kaprizov would have to sign for anywhere between $18-20M on his next contract to even get near that amount again. Which, with all due respect to Kaprizov. Isn't happening. The ONLY player being considered a $20M player right now is McDavid. And apart from Marner and McDavid, we haven't heard the possibility of wanting a short-term contract in regards to Kaprizov. Aside from Russo, thinking out loud. Financially, and logically. It makes far more sense for Kaprizov to sign the 8-year contract now, with Minnesota, while he still can. Not only would he be able to maximize the total amount earned over that timespan, his injury concerns of late give him extra incentive to do so.
