Both had opportunities. Both failed on those opportunities so far. Please stand down if your typing a “z boo was thrown into the playoffs at 19…”. I agree, but what evidence do we have that either of these picks were wins for bill? I suppose we need to factor in who Edmonton and Philly took with their 1st and 3rd pick. There are roughly 20 players from that draft with more NHL points currently(including David Jiricek). He was highly productive in the AHL. He's about to play regularly for the Wild if they don't trade him for an upgraded player. He's a nice asset. NHL fans didn't know how good Faber might be, but the Wild were paying attention and made a trade that the Wild fans wouldn't have imagined working out as well as it has, but it was a good trade. Most people thought the Gustavsson deal was terrible when it was made, but Gus has been a top 10 goalie 2 out of 3 seasons for the Wild. After hearing trade talk last summer, I had said multiple times that trading Gus last offseason would have almost certainly been a terrible move, and Guerin ultimately didn't make the move. The value wasn't there for him, so he kept his player. His entire his tenure has been saddled with contracts for Suter and Parise, never of which was close to being worth their contract value when Guerin became GM. I've been skeptical of plenty of moves, but many have worked out fine if not really well. If every good move is attributed to luck and every mediocre move is simply dumb, even when it achieves desired results of the GM, I'm not sure you can evaluate anything objectively. All I see are excuses. Ohgren, we'll see. There is a reason he hasn't cracked the starting lineup yet. Probably not first round talent, as he was projected. Gustavsson was unnecessary if the Wild signed Fiala instead of Fleury. Talbot was just as good, if not better. The team as a whole would have been better. Remember the Wild leading the NHL in scoring? Wasn't that different and fun....for once. Faber was pure luck. Nobody knew how good he would be and he is showing that he is human more recently. We'll see how Jiricek pans out, but my money is on average or just another Klingberg. If that's the case, Billy got fleeced. Why was Columbus so eager to get rid of him? Is Billy smarter than other GM's in the league? Quite the contrary, he is out of his depth. His name and reputation as player is the only reason he has this job, his managing resume is pretty thin. Quote I would say Bogosian worked out, he's way better than Addison. Bogosian worked out, but that could be anyone, nothing special there. You do know that Billy traded FOR Addison....ouch.
Dean Verified Member
Yeah Billy got Faber. He only played in Billy’s backyard for college. Billy also Traded for Addison an A1st , walstead . Is addy in the nhl anymore? Wally hasn’t done anything yet. So that trade is still to be determined . Addy, lambos , hunt , o rourke were supposed to be the future. One can’t play in nhl and the others haven’t even sniffed it. Gus was a good trade but goalies are a crap shoot . Billy got lucky. Billy gave a 2nd round prospect and more for brazeau. Turning a 2nd into a 7 th . I forgot how much he overpaid for nyquist twice . Wasted assets to get Jo Jo . Gave away kulicov away for nothing only to go on and win two cups while Merrill sat in press box. Nico sturm was traded away for peanuts to keep I can’t play center Fred g and his stupid ntc contract. Sturm won a cup and we got the worst playoff player for 3 more years . Now his crown jewel 9 th overall center isn’t the one he wants because of size yet he could have drafted lundell . Who is exactly the type of center needed to help ek . Until billy get a f ing top 6 center which is what the wild have needed for 25 years , he’s done nothing.. He’s about to piss away his best asset Rossi for a mid to late 1st and 3rd . Which in turn he’ll use to trade for 7 th round 4 th line left wingers. Real GMs make moves Billy is still sitting at the kids table. That’s an admission of failure when trading a nearly 22yr old first round pick now people will justify it as “you have to give up value to get value” which I agree with but in this circumstance if Wild like that first round pick they keep him and ride that cheap contract and extract the value. What I will never understand is Minnesota's infatuation with elite Swedes. There's been Euro guys MN doesn't take who end up being two-time Cup Champs by the time Rossi get's traded or goes to arbitration and then there's all the ones Brackett and Guerin have picked that are not a fit for the Wild. Now they wanna trade for the kinds of guys who they didn't select or let go while NoJo is again under contract. Figure that one out... Guerin has job security and he's trolling us with MN's roller-coaster hockey ride of twists and turns only to arrive at the starting platform again after some kooky ups and downs and sideways banking. An incompetent manager Florida loved Sturm so much he played a grand total of 3 playoff games after the first round, including one in the ECF and none in the Stanley Cup, averaging under 10 minutes a game when he played for a grand total of 3 shots on goal and zero points for the entire playoffs. The value wasn't there for him, so he kept his player. I'm not sure everyone was saying that the CamBot trade was a bad deal. I think the issue was more with we paid a hefty price for Flower, an aging vet on a cash strapped team and extended him 2x$3.5M for a guy who was never going to carry the full load. CamBot, meanwhile was coming off a 49 game campaign where he posted a 2.76gaa with 0.911 s% and basically drug the damn team into the playoffs only to get the reigns yanked from his hands with Flower getting 5 of the 6 starts in the playoffs. It absolutely reeked of nepotism/cronyism of a shitty GM finding soft landings for his buddies. THEN after the extension, CamBot's wife posts a pissy tweet after the Flower extension which gets SillyG all riled up and he ships off CamBot to the first bidder for an unproven prospect. In hindsight, the wild were unable to unlock something from GusBus that the Senators weren't able to get at. However, you can't deny that CamBot was coming off an hot season, and no where near washed up. In 23-24 season with the Kings, CamBot again made the All Star Game after playing in 54 games and posting 0.913 s% on a 2.50 gaa. He did that on a $1M contract. Hell, at the start of the season we had people GusBus was washed and his 0.899/3.06 was going to continue to trend worse. Plenty of the people were assuming that GusBus was dead weight, and a warm body holding a roster spot from Wally.
