If they can not swing some home run deal before next season I would rather start with Ohgren, Buium, Rossi, and Yurov in the lineup, give them the ability to make some mistakes and grow and wait until the trade deadline than just keep adding dead weight has-beens, never-was'es, and grit guys.

Exactly!  Find players that can skate and then give them TOI.  Merrill didn't do any better than Buium.  Ohgren should have been playing all year.... wouldn't have needed Braz.  Chart the youth and validate that they are getting better.  If they peak and are not where they need to be... then they are trade bait.  We MUST do a better job of preparing players and bringing them along.

Good luck getting a true 1C without including him in a trade.  We have needed a true 1C since this franchise has existed and that is way more important than Faber and his bloated salary after having a down year last year.  Was not good the last 3 months of the year.  To get something good you have to give up something good. They aren’t going to want our crap and sorry Rossi trade value is not that high.

Good luck getting a true 1C period.  No playoff team is going to trade away their 1C.  No rebuilding teams is going to trade their 1C unless they are older.

Teams that can't seem to make it into the playoffs each year may be open to a change, but they'd also have to think that what we offer would make the difference.

Was watching the Caps/Car game last night.  Duhaime is playing well.  Bottom role player that is putting up good minutes and is only costing the caps 1.8M/AAV.  Makes you wonder how many solid players we have watched walk out the door because we were not patient enough or didn't give them enough of a chance.

Guerin’s biggest move was making the most out of the Kevin Fiala situation, getting a franchise cornerstone in Brock Faber and a top prospect (Liam Ohgren) for a player he would never sign.

Not true. Nobody knew at the time how good Faber was going to be in the NHL. Ohgren could still be traded before he ever becomes an NHL player full time.

Fiala could have been signed if Fleury wasn't. Talbot could have been retained and the Wild wouldn't have Gustavson. A lot of moving pieces, but Talbot has been better than Fleury and more consistent than Gustavson. Gus will be better going forward, but starting goaltending is not as hard to find as scorers. It's hard to say how things would have played out if all of the alternate options happened, but I feel like the Wild would have been a better team over those seasons overall.

As far as Guerin is concerned, what if the Wild miss the playoffs next season or don't advance past the first round? For me, it's WCC or sayonara. He will preach about his four or five year plan and say he needs more time. The problem is for him, is that they never went into rebuilding mode, so they need to win NOW. No more excuses, this is the year or start over.

Fiala is fun to watch.  Offensively gifted.  Defensively challenged .. Probably why BG was willing to let him go.  BG seems to covet players that know how to play defensively.    Have to wonder if Connor McDavid would be unwelcome on the Wild roster.  Guy had 100 points but was on the ice for 80 against as well.

I prefer building through the draft.  But that also requires a premium on developing players.  The Wild are not good at developing players.  Which leaves us spending too much on players and not enough money to backfill properly.

Rossi for 7.5m, especially on a bridge.  A long term deal or higher money would give me pause.

If Nelson wants say $5.5-6m for short term, then that's something worth considering.  The issue for all of this is what if Boeser and Nelson are kinda Parise/Sutering things and coming as a package deal, but taking less to do it?  I still think I'd go Ehlers and Bennet over Boeser/Nelson if the money is equivalent.  Moreso just to stick it to the Jets.

The issue with the team is 2nd line depth scoring (of people at 50-70 pt value), and 3rd line defense/offense from the blueline in general.  Increasing overall team speed wouldn't be the worst thing either.

Why not all 4?! 😁
