SkolWild73 Verified Member
The reason for the power play goal was Freddy was tripped at the faceoff and then out of position to cover his man, causing Foligno to choose. Had that penalty been called who knows what would have happened. I guess I can’t say that Vegas’ power play was dominate based off of that one play.
Burnt Toast Verified Member
Gus wasn’t in a bad position IMO. He was screened. He can push off to make a play on that shot from the side. That was a nice fake/ pass/shot especially with a Wild player out of position as Skol mentioned. My key takeaway from the game is Vegas is beatable. JH needs to continue working on getting matchups with our top scores out against Whitecloud or Hague. Hill is an excellent goaltender and quick so scoring on a rebound or odd bounce is important. If the Wild win this next game the pressure is back on Vegas and we will have the momentum.

Really weird that 2 of the 3 takeaways were the same thing. There were at least 3 opportunities, beyond the 1 they called, for the officials to call penalties against Vegas where they swallowed their whistles instead. The PP score was efficient, but it's not like it demoralized the Wild and they stopped fighting. This was a game right up to the final minute and that PP sequence was only 1 awkward moment. It was a tight game. Hartman almost scored early, and probably should have drawn 2-3 penalties during the game, but they awarded none. That breakaway goal by Howden was more deflating than the power play goal to me since it put the Wild down by 2 goals and Vegas is hard to score against when they are healthy and engaged. Hopefully the Wild get a better outcome in game 2.
