Article: Marco Rossi Can Prove the Doubters Wrong... But Does It Matter?

Recommended Posts

If Rossi can remain clutch, it can wash the taste out of not being all that productive down the stretch run.  Lest we forget, 40 points to 60 points is a hell of a jump to be proud of.  I want him to score when it counts, shut up the naysaying, and have him prove he deserves an extension.

In that crazy San Jose game, Rossi AND Ek were both at the goal line scrapping for that goal on a power play.  Rossi isn't afraid of being a net front presence when it counts.  I think there's warts in his game (because of course there is; no player is perfect).  But I don't trust Yurov to be that immediate upgrade to Rossi.  He should complement what Rossi and Ek bring.  A team lacking skill shouldn't be so quick to dump it, unless someone is just saying, "Yeah, here's a ready made 80-point player.  You want him?  Havesies, we're hopeless.  We'll take Rossi off your hands."

But uh...teams don't just give up 80 point players on a whim.  Rossi's most of the way there anyway.  The Wild should be looking to dump some defense first players in the lower lines with higher offense talent.

It must be personal with BG or some weird way of contract negotiations.  To mention Zuccarello, who is the very definition of soft skill, and not Rossi who goes to the paint more than any player other than Ek is stupid. BG isn't stupid....is he?

5.0 Zuccarello took on 8.0 Zdeno Chára whilst in NY. He's not soft 😉

Love the article. No matter what Rossi does in this series, I will not change my positive opinion of him.  One series isn’t enough for me to change what I have seen in two seasons with his growth and dedication.

Rossi has been uncharacteristically passive the last month.  I don't know if it is injury related or mentally checking out.

He took a Boldy shot off the inside of his left knee in, I believe, the Seattle game a couple of weeks ago. Hoping the four days off will help him, as well as the rest of the team.

I’ll never understand our meathead fucking idiot GM and his hatred for Rossi and not giving him his kudos.

This team has literally been center starved since it’s inception and we finally draft a top 6 center and then shit on him for continually meeting the mark

He needs to score goals, yes. However he's not expected to pierce a sagging megolithic defense. Can he one-time like the above mentioned skill guys? Snipe from the dot? Yes, but. There is no time or space from the net to the dots in the playoffs. Therefore he needs to assist on nearly twice as many goals as he scores. That is what's expected here as a skilled Centerman. Nothing less.

There are three options for Rossi.

One is sign and extension for about 8.5 million.

Two is that he gets offered a contract by another club more than 8.5 million.

Three is that he is traded and signs with another team.

What does that give Minnesota.  The first one gives the Wild a top 6 center with skill that can score. The second one is the best option if Minnesota loses the player.  If another team offers Rossi a contract they would have to give Minnesota a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd round pick as compensation.  If he gets signed for over 9.15 the compensation is 2 1st round picks. I doubt Minnesota pays more than 8.5 for him.  I can see one of the east coast teams close to going to the cup paying more than 8.5.  The third option is the worse option by far.  Trading a like for like on Rossi gets you nothing but something that the other team didn't want.  That is usually not a good thing.  Any team that has a talent that would be an upgrade also has money to offer Rossi 8.5 million.  I doubt Minnesota trades him and I doubt anything he does in the playoffs will effect the fact that he will more than likely be in Minnesota next year.
