Article: Marco Rossi Might Have Just Saved the Wild's Season

Rossi has really good puck possession numbers, even during the scoring slump.

Ek's contract was one that everyone agreed was a crazy-low cap hit when it was signed, and it was signed in the middle of a period of cap stagnation. I do think he is a 7-8 mil player if the game's economics don't change, but he's definitely that if the cap is skyrocketing. Completely different situations.

Does he?? That changes everything. I’ll take your word for it. I guess my eyes deceived me while watching all these games. Even if It appeared to be to the contrary. I guess possession numbers don’t equate to controlling the game and scoring goals.

I think everyone knew Ek’s contract was a heck of a deal at the time. I don’t think it’s out of the question that Billy G is going to try and get a similar type deal with Rossi this time around too, and why wouldn’t he? This wouldn’t be a conversation if he had five more inches and a physical aspect to his game.

I’m not here to argue or poke at Rossi’s size. There plenty of undersized players with the similar attributes as Rossi and still have the physicality aspect. Would I rather see a more complete game in those regards? Absolutely, and we will need it in the near future to make that step to competitor, from everyone. The impression from Billy G is he thinks this too.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what I or you think is a fair/ good deal for his signing, in the context of what “the market” says. Billy G will do Billy G things regarding contracts. I have a feeling we will have another Kevin Fiala type situation with Rossi. Where he wanted too much in Billy G’s eyes,  didn’t think he was worth it, and trades him off.

Disclaimer, I am not a Billy G fan…

He and his teammates just shot 5% for a month. It happens.

I just think there's a bigger reality check coming for Guerin when he trades away a play-driving, two-way center in his prime. Not convinced that Yurov is an instant 2C next year, and damn sure not convinced the Wild won't need a 3C, even if Yurov is ready to be a 2C.

I am hoping that GMBG is holding off on doing anything with Rossi until he has Kaprizov signed.

1.  He shouldn’t use money on Rossi that he might need to increase the offer to Kaprizov.

2.  If Kaprizov doesn’t want to resign, then he shouldn’t trade Rossi, period.

I hope Rossi is resigned.  A team can never have enough centers.  Trying to trade him for a winger doesn’t help the center situation.  Trading him for a bigger/more physical center will likely result in the new player having less skill and scoring potential or cost others picks and players that we need to really compete and/or will need at the TDL.
