It's gonna take Herb Brooks ghost behind the bench, spirit of Boogaard beneath the skin of the big guys, and European exceptionalism if Minnesota has half a chance of winning a few playoff games.

Gus can't win games when MN scores just one goal though.

Remember what cross-eyed Bill said though. "He's confident in his team."

It's over. Not any offensive chances, no muscle or grit to get to net, lost a top 4 dman for the season, Faber looks like Merril, and NoJo is the Wilds go to speedster that can't even get a bad angle shot off. This is pathetic. No way in hell Kap signs here. Boldy and Faber are asking for trades this summer. It's not good anyway you look at it now and the future.

The Wild were projected to be somewhere beneath Nashville and not in the playoffs before the season began. With the start they had, MN was trending towards contending. The special teams sucked but not as bad with a PP that had Kirill. At least it wasn't double-bad, no PP and lousy PK like now.

It's the overall truth that STL is hot and peaking at the right time. That confidence is what you'd need to beat the Jets. Minnesota is sad, bombed-out, and depleted both physically and mentally with no confidence, leadership, or identity.

Last night I saw Foligno, Brazo, and Trenin trying to be physical. Engaged, hustling, and battling. They didn't score and MN's skill guys again tried to finesse it cause that's who they are.

The Wild are grinders and Euros with no in-between. Not like WPG, Dallas, or STL with a couple sprinkled in. They got no guts as Middstrom gets run head-first into the boards. They're going the opposite way of the Blues and reverting towards their initial expectations without their key guys.

I would love to see a 2003. I have a gut-feeling like last night's NYI game that MN wants to win like every NHL team but they realize subconsciously that they're not capable of digging deeper, climbing higher, clawing past the next barrier. They aren't built for battles. They're a team of regular-season, World's spritzer-league guys and Rudy-types with too little talent or ability to be more than role players.

One high-IQ but fortunate goal last night against a beatable Isles team. One... Followed by a quick two allowed and a bad penalty turned PP-tally. That's the current Wild. They don't find a way, they wanted NYI to respect their record and skill plays.

P.S. Anyone getting the Granny, Zucker, Coyle vibes???

How long did MN wait for those players to breakout? Where did that get to?

Boldy is good but predictable and not clutch or takeover. More like dipsy-dooble and buttonhook

Rossi is skilled and pretty good with grade As, more than Zucker but similarly doesn't defend well or have jam in his game. It's finesse and he's improved his grit-level but where's the ceiling?

Faber is valuable for sure but not Bobby Orr end to end for a beauty goal or Hedman one-timer. He's a younger, right-handed, Brodin.

MN bottomed-out under Fenton and OCL. Cross-eyed Bill has done pretty good but it's still not there. Which team will you get? The one who can shut down Ovi and the Caps or the Wild who look lost against the Islanders or get blasted by STL or VGK.
