There is no way that Goose is worth $7m/. He is at best a $5m goalie. We don't even know if he can put together b2b years yet. I agree with you. $7M would put him in the top 8 I believe for 2026. Maybe we will know more next season, but I still think his performance has a lot to do with how we play D. $5M seems about right
Scalptrash Verified Member
Quote $17 million AAV for eight years of Kaprizov This is an April fools joke, right? Anything over $12M is too much, he is simply not worth it and too fragile. Knowing Guerin, and the Wild's history in general, they will over pay him to get him to stay. The ONLY option if he wants more than $12M is to trade him. He cannot be the Wild's number one player with the amount of time he misses. The team will always struggle to make the playoffs when their #1 is missing for more than 1/3 of the season EVERY YEAR. Logan Stanley permanently damaged Kaprizov. Yes, he can still produce at a high rate, but he is now extremely fragile. It's a no brainer that he wants to be completely healthy before signing the biggest contract of his career. I suspect missing all of this extra time was his doing to ensure that. Trade him. With his money and the extra unlocked cap space, get four new top six forwards. Think bigger people.

If that's what it takes to keep him he will get it. OCL is on record saying no one will pay him more than he will. I think I figured it out once that he could get $19M per year before he hit the 20% of the teams cap space limit. Kaprizov has the Wild in pretty much the same spot Mauer had the Twins in. OldDutchChip Verified Member
Kap has an injury and all this nonsense about him being second rate & replaceable….stop w this idiocy! 9mm for him? Anything over 12 is too much? Even if cap wouldn’t have increased, this is the current rate for a superstar! This type of talk lessens Kap’s true impact and shows you just don’t understand his true value with Cap going up - 15-17 is a reality, deal w it. Yeah, he's making $9M now and would be considered underpaid. $17M feels a little high, but $12.5M - $15M would be a solid deal for the Wild. I had thought Rantanen might get $12.75M, so maybe Kaprizov does take a deal in that range, but I suspect it could be in the $14M-$15M range.

And If he comes in and plays like he did before he got injured - then 17 is really very likely 🍻

That caps him at 12 million a year. The Wild will overpay. 14 million absolute tops. 13 is most realistic.

Kaprizov's injury troubles has reduced his value imo and the Wild will certainly over pay. I'm guessing he gets closer to 14M if not more if he stays that is. It's been confirmed that he suffered a sports hernia. The surgery was done by the same surgeon who did Yanni Gourdes sports hernia. Gourde came back weeks sooner than Kaprizov who isn't back yet. Slow healer? That's why I compared Mauer and Kaprizov's situation. This is more of an emotion driven signing. Emotion always drive the dollar amount up. He has to be the worst skater I've ever watched attempt to play hockey. On top of that his ability to stick handle makes Foligno look like Gretzky.
