Citizen Strife Verified Member
I don't give Hartman the benefit of the doubt anymore. That said, it was a close enough play that I think it was a hip check rather than a slew foot. It's a player with one of the worst reps in the league versus one of the most hated teams in the league. Doubt they'll get any sympathy. Edited Thursday at 02:27 PM by Citizen Strife
mnfaninnc Verified Member
At full speed, I was thinking the same thing about Hartzy, maybe a little slew foot. When the replay was shown, Hartzy knocked McNabb off balance, McNabb's foot shot in the air but not with a skate helping it, and Hartzy through him down. A slew foot looks like what L'Hereaux did to Spurgeon. Now, from the bench angle, I can see the Vegas coach's argument, but it was clean as Hartman pointed out on the screen replay. Blues have are screaming up the left lane and are squarely in the rear view mirror sight of the Wild. Canucks are starting to be seen as they are fighting Calgary at the moment. I think the Blues end up catching us and then fading a little. My hope is we don't go playing the Canucks and Flames while they are still alive for playoff chances.

Imyourhuckleberry Verified Member
NCAA Frozen Four tournament begins tonight--Gophers play tonight, Denver plays tomorrow night. WHL playoffs begin tomorrow night for both Riley Heidt and Ryder Ritchie. KHL playoffs also just started, with Yurov's team losing 4-1 yesterday. It seems like they haven't been really strong when he's missed time. We'll see if he gets into some playoff games as he works his way back from the ankle injury.

If Metallurg gets knocked out early, I wonder if they will terminate his contract before May 31st? I wonder if they can since he's on their IR? I wonder if we trust our medical team with his care?
mnfaninnc Verified Member
Speaking of Metallurg, Ilya Nabakov is their main goalie at 22. Last draft, Colorado selected him as an overager in the 2nd round of the draft. That's quite a risk on an overage player, but, could this be the way to put good goalies in your system? Goalies take a long time to develop, usually, but Nabakov won the Gagarin Cup last year at 21. I think the shots coming at him are about equal to the A. Could this have been a savvy move by the Avs? When I was looking up an update for Yurov, a headline was there that Yurov and Nabakov were shunning contract extensions from Metallurg. Let's just assume that Yurov's contract is terminated, and he's well along on his recovery process. Could he be signed, visa'd, and eligible for a post season run with us? They wouldn't let Kaprizov do it, but was that just a one time thing? He was drafted by the team and therefore would be considered in their pipeline. I think they would want him to have a training camp getting accustomed to the structure they've been working on all season. I imagine the team would like him in the US, training with other Wild players in the summer though, if they can work that out.

Sign him and get his visa approved so he can do just this. I don't think he'd be a liability in this system, though. His reputation is as a 200' player who does everything well and really has no weaknesses. If eligible, I could see him like our TDL acquisition. Kaprizov can get him up to speed in the meetings with Russian, I'm sure he's played in a defensive oriented system before. I'd just start him out as a wing. But, is it worth burning an ELC year on him? On Buium? That's another matter.

Remember the Avs weren't liking the goalies they had last year, so like you said it made sense to do anything to make it better. Crazy that a team that is supposed to be good trade both goalies in season and have it work to completely flip the season.
