Not sure if he'll be a target, but conceptually, I may like Peterka as a developing player more than getting Boeser or a declining Brock Nelson. Guys under 30 years old who aren't undersized and can both skate and score would be ideal.

Some concern that he has fewer hits and blocked shots than Johansson, who does those things at a pretty low level, but getting good young skaters who can put up points would be nice, in general. I can see Guerin wanting a more complete player if giving up more than Ohgren.

JJ's age and stat line have my interest.  What would we give up? 

• Ogz wouldn't get it done. 
• Ogz + Rossi is too much. 
• Ogz + Wild NHL spare parts won't get it done
• Yurov one for one would prove bill has gone 100% schizophrenic on his built from within credo

That's why if this deal gets done it'll be:

Ogz + Rossi + 2nd round pick for JJ

Tony - any noise giving a line on what JJ's next contract looks like?

He's an RFA I believe.   We should lock up Rossi,  and then just offer-sheet him.

I know (the picks)...but he's a proven commodity vs a crapshoot late round first, or second, etc.  wherever the compensation would fall.

I read an article that his next contract would be in the 6.5-7 range.  Probably same as Rossi.  Same article also stated that Buffalo really wanted to extend him and had no plans of trading him.

The Wild traded their 2025 third round draft pick to move up one slot to get Zeev.

Which means they can ONLY offer sheet $2,290,457 - $4,580,917 as all other compensation (besides under $1.5M) require that third round draft pick.

It's possible that the wild could trade with the flyers to get their 2025 3rd rounder back, but they need to have their own picks to do the offer sheet.

Absolutely insane. Rossi plays a more important position.  Produces the same offensively and is better defensively.  SMH

 

Hard NO on Peterka. If we are giving up assets then we need a legitimate superstar in return.   I like the Petterson idea. I'd love Tkachuk (but I doubt he's available)  The Wild have a solid supporting cast.  They need another superstar.

An offer sheet would apply to 2026 draft picks. Trading the 2026 2nd for Nyquist closed the door on getting an RFA of Peterka's caliber. But this is the way to build the roster, by targeting RFA's. Would the Wild pick Peterka in the 1st round of the 2026 draft if he were available? Absolutely. So why not offer (gulp) that first with Ohgren and, say, Aron Kiviharju to get Peterka? Maybe it takes another forward prospect (Haight?) to get it done. Or be bold and offer up Wallstedt? Why feel the need to subtract in order to add on the NHL roster?

If the offer sheet is under 6.87 they could, but like almost always, it would probably be matched.

Absolutely it would be matched, if it were signed. But most likely Peterka would never sign that offer...

I really hope we don't need to post every time Marat scores for Boston or elsewhere.  He was .10-.13 PPG all season.  If he succeeds elsewhere, great.  If the Wild find someone better next season, then whatever.

The Wild's offense is someone one player or one trade (good or bad) won't fix.

Agree with ya.  I would add that was his first shot in three games.  Guessing he will not keep up his 100% shooting pct.

Russo floating the name is for sure interesting as maybe Peterka doesn't want to ink a contract with Buffalo, but I have a hard time believing Buffalo would trade him. He's part of their young core and already playing in their top 6. Jack Quinn on the other hand hasn't fit in and would make a lot more sense as the cost should be much lower. If you retain Rossi there's that junior hockey connection that set the OHL on fire. Quinn's stats and advanced metrics aren't strong, especially this season, so maybe a 2 year deal at a modest AAV (4.5?) as a prove it deal would be the way to go. 

The reality is Billy needs to make a few moves this offseason and Quinn could a  nice lower tier move that works out for both sides.

NHL Trade Rumors making notes of Peterka's frustration in Buffalo. It even goes so far as to say that a team could steal him from the Sabres if they want to pay the penalty. They also mention that the Sabres could move him. They have gotten some large offers at the deadline.

Peterka is a RFA so the Wild would have to give up draft compensation if they offered him a contract.  Now is there a sign and trade thing like they have in other sports?  Lets say that Buffalo signs him for 6 to 6.5 and then the Wild trade for him.  Say a mixture of prospects and salary.  This is where they need to get creative If Buffalo is trading this guy they are in full rebuild mode.  So expiring contracts are what they want more than likely.  So the contracts Minnesota has to trade is Zucarello and Bogo.  The pesky NMC comes into play with Zucarello.  But by the trade deadline next year his is a commodity that will more than likely get moved unless he is playing spectacularly.  Why not move him in the off season and get a solid member of the top six for the next ten years. 

Dont' get me wrong I love Zucarello but it is a business and I want to see a Cup in St. Paul before I die.  Keeping Zucarello around until he is beyond his prime is not going to do that.  Same thing with Spurgeon.

Not when the dynamic scoring duo of FreddyG and MoJo are providing the bulk of this teams offense.  All we need is Hinnostroza to go on another heater!!!  I'm glad my baby lamb sacrifice worked, and BillyG was able to acquire MoJo 2.0 (nyquist) at the deadline.
