If Ranty signs with someone else I would say that is a good gauge.

If bill brings in garbage I see Kaprizov going elsewhere. If KK takes up too much cap, we will have to use young unproven guys or older "garbage". I doubt it will be less. Good point! 👍 We will stew over this until then. 😳 Edited March 1 by FredJohnson
Fezig Verified Member
I remember one summer when a MN hockey team spent a lot of money on two free agents. If I'm not mistaken, they are still paying for those deals. Sign KK and get him the best line mate available. After that, bring up (and over) the youth that makes the Wild have one of the strongest pipelines in the NHL. There may be some early bumps in the season but I believe odds are they'll work themselves out by the time the playoff push starts.

Curious, does anything think that KK would consider slightly less money for his extension, if GMBG can assemble a SC worthy roster with the extra cap space? After a certain amount of money, does it really matter if you are a SC dynasty for several years? In mean, 20 years from now, KK won't be playing anymore, so will he rather have $15-17M AAV for several years, or something less but (not guaranteed of course) potentially Kaprizov engraved a few times on a certain piece of hardware? 1Brotherbill Verified Member
Even with the cap going up that much each year for the next three years. The Wild still have a 9 million dollar head start on everyone else. Being that the cap goes up this off season I doubt that many franchises will have anything left except the cap increase when Kirill's extension or free agency starts. So if he wants the 15 million contract Minnesota is the probably the only one who will be able to give it to him.

It's contrary to the logic some insist that KK97 won't sign here unless the roster is built better. But we can build a better roster if he takes a lower cost deal (leaves cap space to retain players and get free agents). If KK just wants the biggest contract, we have the advantage of offering him more cash and more term than any other team.

It would help, but the Wild do definitely need him regardless. It might affect other teams' interest?
