Will D. Ness Verified Member
I'm leaning towards waiting for FA instead of giving up a player like Ohgren. 2
OldDutchChip Verified Member
no, stay away from him he is not the right piece to pair with kap and would eat away at the cash available to sign more impactful player imagine we get him, pay him 8MM to stick around and then loose out on a chance at Ranty. yeap smart! but i guess if you want to make Freddy happy go for it. trade for boeser. then trade yurov for nelson. and celebrate the addition of three brocks ....that's about all there's going to be to celebrate here should that happen.
Willy the poor boy Verified Member
Boeser and a 1'st to Carolina for Rantenan and a 3'rd if Carolina can't sign him. (shrug)

Pass. Agreed. Not sure if it is true, but read he wants an extension of 8 years at $8 mil per. If somehow they could get him for cheap , like really cheap, and don’t resign him then sure if there are no other options and it is one minute before the trade deadline. But not sure how that would even be possible. Only way to afford him this year is for Kap to be out the rest of the year anyway.
MNCountryLife Verified Member
I am expecting a move by BG....he commented that Kirill will be out longer than expected basically placed a sign on the door "Open For Business". The question becomes: Is he looking for a player to run for the playoffs? Or is he looking to adjust the roster for signings this summer? I'm hoping for the latter of the two. Pass on Brock.
Citizen Strife Verified Member
The problem is going for a Johansson and keeping him for $2m is a lot different than big game hunting and risking $6-9m. Sure have to hope it is the right person. 1
Dango Verified Member
Also do you go for 1 Ranty at 11-14 mill or do you try for 2 guys at that price . They wouldnt have to be brocks necessarily .

Saw a Skeet the other day that said the Canes offered Ranta a "nine-digit" contract but didn't really go into any other specifics and he hasn't accepted anything yet. I'm guessing it was an 8yr extension at $12.5/yr but that's just a guess. I just don't see money working out.

They wouldnt have to be brocks necessarily . exactly. and should you tie money into one of Brocks, that's less money to spend on both Kap and Ranty (let's assume he is a target). I think you go hard after Ranty. what IF we throw the most $ at him and Kap and get both for 15MM? i know that's a ton of money and would likely be the richest deal(s) out there BUT they would only be the richest deals until next star is signed. the prices and cap are going up significantly - i think we should jump on this.....having two studs on the books in their prime is not that bad of a move if you ask me. you offset that with Zeev, Yurov, Jiri, Marat, Lauko very light $ contracts plus already great Ek value, and 15 for Kap/Ranty is going to be fine. This should help with Rossi's negotiation. His camp will realize that should they re-up for a bit less $ and term - his production will increase and so will his next contract. We may price ourselves out for his service in the long term but we may get Rossi for the next 3-4 years at a fair cost. Realistic? Probably not. But i think it makes sense and sets us up for (a) keeping Kap and the core intact and (b) becoming a SC contender immediately and for the next 5 years. Longer than expected could just mean the 6 week timeline instead of the 4 weeks they thought. (His injury has a 4-6 week timeline for recovery.)

I did some math around our cap space next year, assuming all the young players that come in and getting no one signed at the deadline. We would have around 14-16 mil, prior to signing Rossi. Depends on his deal, but would not have to shed much (hartman) and maybe one more to make it work?

Protec Verified Member
Brocks that is. I hope Guerin does refrain from much trading and let's get the Wild team we saw in the early weeks of the season. Healthy #97 especially.
SkolWild73 Verified Member
Here is the breakdown of our cap space for next year in case anyone is interested. We currently have 16 players signed, 10 forwards, 5 Dmen, and 1 goalie, leaving us with $21,771,668 in space. Our forwards are Kap, Boldy, Ek, Zucc, Hartman, Foligno, Trenin, Freddy G, Ohgren, and Vinny. Our D is Faber, Spurge, Brodin, Midds and Bogo, and obviously Gus at goalie. The Wall is signed for $2.2M, leaving us with $19,551,668. Assuming we have 13 forwards and 7 defensemen, we need to sign 3 more forwards and 2 D. Assuming it is Jiricek at $918,333 and Zeev at roughly $1mil, that gets us down to $17,633,335. Three forward positions will most likely be Yurov at $1M? Then they resign Khus for $1.5M? Would leave us with $15,133,335. Last player is Rossi, gonna say 7 since most are assuming a bridge or modified bridge or full contract of between 6 and 8. Would leave us with $8,133,335 to play with. The last available roster spot would be someone on a two-way contract. Would almost have to get rid of one or two contracts if they want to sign anyone as a forward. I can't see them wanting to send Ohgren back to the or scratching him. Unless they plan on starting Yurov there.

Can't see a world where Nojo is re-signed. If they had not picked up Vinny, I would have figured they would have re-signed Lauko. But since Vinny is signed for $775,000, I just don't see the room for Lauko. If they do re-sign him, then I would bet that either Hartman and or Trenin's day would be numbered.
