MNCountryLife Verified Member
I really like the direction of the team. Our young players are getting better. I think the USA team will really help Boldy's competitive spirit. But this article is spot on. The Wild need at least 2 high priced Productive forwards that can solidify our scoring and compete level. Without them we will continue to struggle in high intensity games and playoffs.

SkolWild73 Verified Member
I was looking at the Wild's cap space yesterday and in order to make any splash, Justin is correct, they will need to move on from at least one player, but if they would want to make a run at Marner or Rantanen if they are even available, they probably need to clear up around 6-8 million, assuming those two are going to get $14 mil. We have 9 forwards from this year's team signed through next year in Kap, Zucc, Boldy, Ek, Foligno, Hartman, Trenin, and Freddy G and Vinnie. 5 Defenseman signed through next year in Sprug, Brodin, Faber, Midds and Bogo. and 1 goalie in Gus. We have $22.6 mill in space. Assuming Rossi, Khus, Ohgren and Yurov take the 4 remaining spots that will take up probably around $10 mill. Add in the Wall's 2+ mill and we are down to around $10 mil in space. Add in Zeev and Jiricek and we are down to $8 mill. Without clearing some space, we are left with Nelson, Boeser and maybe Ehlers from Winnipeg that might fit into that range. Maybe Tavares as well? I read that Boeser wants 8 years at $8mil minimum.

He'd be a good add IMO as long as he doesn't command a huge pay increase. 3

Price might be about right, but the term I would not be a big fan of.
SkolWild73 Verified Member
I also do not think Marner is going to be available. Read that he would not wave his NTC this year. Toronto can offer him the 8 years and are probably going to start at 14 per and end of signing him for 15-16. Carolina is rumored to want to trade Rantanen if they cannot get him to sign an extension. If he is traded, I can almost guarantee it will only be to a team that has reached a contract extension with him. It is possible their will not be any big game to go hunting for this summer. May have to settle for a doe or two and no bucks. 1

The question is who would take him. No doubt not an easy task but perhaps a team like Chicago. They have a ton of cap space and need functioning players. Also, it is Hartman's home so he would probably waive his NTC. The Wild may have to add a minor league prospect to sweeten the deal, but it could be a net positive.

FredJohnson Verified Member
How many guys can we send to Iowa? (Note: The No Trade Clause doesn't mean a guy can't be sent to the AHL, the No Move Clause does.)
Patrick Verified Member
I don't understand this obsession with Boeser. He a one dimensional player that can't create his own opportunities. The Wild have ONE player (Kaprizov) who creates space on the ice for teammates. Boldy may develop into that and perhaps Rossi too. But what we desperately need is another player who can do it all on his own. Boeser is NOT that and never will be on his best day. I love Rantanan but don't think he's worth $14mil. I say call Ottawa and get Tkachuck! Perfect in every way. (But possibly not available) 1

Looking at the top UFA's coming up in 2025 though, after Marner and Rantanen, there isn't a ton of super exciting options. OldDutchChip Verified Member
i think ranty at 13mm is fine for us. then give kap his 15mm. this is not a problem going into cap increase years. gives Kap an amazing partner. this is MUCH better than to waste money on two brocks. you get the top core of kap ranty yurov boldy rossi ek. also maybe keep an eye out on brady t.....who knows - a couple more fights against team canada and ottawa may want to ship out the pesky american and welcome back son of canada - spurgeon. Win Win for both teams? yes.

mnhockeyfan03 Verified Member
Much better to go the trade route to get 2-3 legit top 6 players. Not a fan of Ranty or Marner at all. Colorado is going to steal the Ranty trade with Necas. We need to trade off a couple guys with value on forward or D to get 2-3 big fast top 6 guys. Need to think outside the box. mnhockeyfan03 Verified Member
Try to get buffalos attention for Tuch and Thompson or ottawas attention for B Tkachuk. For just Brady trade Rossi, Faber, Ohgren and a 1st and whatever else they want. He is an animal and what we need. For Buffalo ask for Tuch, Thompson, Samuelson or Jokiharju and trade Rossi, Boldy, Faber and 1st or 2nd pick.
