SkolWild73 Verified Member
Nice Article. I look forward to see Aron develop in the coming years and hopefully one day put on the Wild sweater.
Protec Verified Member
Getting a player with a significant role for the National team as a 4th rounder is pretty good.
1Brotherbill Verified Member
I think the year in Finland for Rasmus Kumpulainen will show as a good thing next year when he is in Iowa. He fell into the age problem that Heidt had. Old enough to succeed at a lower level but not old enough to play at a higher level. With the NCAA ruling that opens up CHL players to join NCAA teams will help out the players like Rasmus and Riley in the future. It is always better to develop against older competition.
SkolWild73 Verified Member
I know this is off topic, but that first game of 4 nations was a damn fun game to watch. Brodin and Ek both score for Sweden, and Gus made some great saves. Wasn't enough as Canada won in OT 4-3, but still a fun game to watch.

My understanding was that Kumpulainen signed a 2 year deal in Finland. I think he comes in '26.
mnfaninnc Verified Member
Nice article Neil. If I'm Guerin, I don't think I'm waiting around for this one. He may be confident in his abilities, but I don't think he is a unicorn....I mean a Jared Spurgeon....and I think if we can use him as trade bait we'll be in a better position. Looking at the future, I'm seeing: Faber, Middleton, Jiricek, Buium, Brodin, Spacek, Lambos as our defensive corps. I really don't think there'll be room except as a callup. But, if he can get us a nice forward, I'm all in.

Wonder how that works for him. AHL will let 18 year old players play if they didn't belong to a junior team. 20 years if you played in juniors. The date for the 18 year olds is September 15th and I assume it is the same date for 20 year olds. He is currently 19 and his birthday is Aug 8th. So he would be eligible to play in Iowa come September. So many hoops to jump through.

Did some further research. He is currently on an ELC and that will expire end of 2027. He is on loan for two years which expires end of 2026. So, one more year in Finland and then one year in Iowa to prove that the Wild should invest in him. Smells like a trade commodity now. IIRC, if a player is signed to an ELC and is playing in Europe on loan, I believe it slides.
