He get's some calls against him (his fault because of his history and mouth), but that wasn't one of them. He'll get suspended. Sorry, were you hoping for a rousing game of Bandy this evening?!? Yes, gone are the games of the of the mid 80s to mid 90s, no one is a tough guy with a 1/2 shield and a neck guard on, so long as their going to permit checking and fighting in the NHL, Hartman’s actions are not only messages, they’re mandatory. The only crime is he’s the only one with the manbearpig logo doing the heavy work.

Protec Verified Member
Ugly game. Let it get away and spiraled out of control fast. Discipline went out the window. Ottawa is a better team than in the past and MN thought they were gonna roll past them. Boldy is always looking for a play and stopping/curling high in the O-zone. Wake up pal, that's not working with Zuccy and Ek. The Wild made it easy for the Sens to defend. MN looked small, slow, and disjointed. MN's defense tonight wasn't sharp. Gus was good early but MN just played a bad game, got frustrated, and spent a bunch of time short-handed. Hit the reset button. Other teams are making big trades and stuff is shaking out. MN needs a boost somehow. Nobody stepped up for this one. Edited February 2 by Protec 2
Protec Verified Member
One of the biggest problems I see lately is MN's goal differential. Their record is decent for now but the goals for and goals against isn't good when you look at teams with a similar record.

Jokes asides, I agree it was a frustrating game and can feel your frustration too. I wanted to stop watching multiple times during the last period, but I decided to finish it out anyway and am none too thrilled with the team that showed up on the ice. That said, impulsively burning down the entire team isn't going to improve anything. You don't move to a different house if the water heater needs to be replaced. You look at the situation and fix it. It's possible that requires making a few changes, and those changes might be minor things or maybe even major things, but they won't be ones that wipe the slate clean and start over. That doesn't solve the problem at all - it makes it worse. 1

Throw away game? I knew from the drop of the puck they where flat. It's frustrating to see this team hustle and out play Toronto and Montreal with less talent. Tonight they didnt. Instead of pushing down 2-0 they gave up. Maybe put Modano behind the bench or something. The Kaprizov and Zuckerallo days are gone, yet no change in the lineup or bringing in legit top 6ers. Rumors are Nelson is signing here July 4th. That's just another bandaid. The wild are so far behind in being a contender even when the Praise-Suter bandaid peel off. Enforceror Verified Member
It's frustrating for sure but at the end of the day, this is professional entertainment and I'm going to save my hard earned energy to be pissed at things that are actually important to my life. Love watching the Wild play and love seeing them succeed but the ups and downs make the experience complete. 1

Protec Verified Member
If you wanted a blueprint for how to beat the Wild currently, this was it. Turn it into a physical game with lots of special teams play. MN wasn't too bad in the first 10 minutes. The shots were like 9-6 and then they choked on the PP with the SHG. From there on, Ottawa was the sharper team and MN crumbled. Knudi can be too smart and often stops or decides not to attack big, rangey defenders 1v1. His size and their reach is something he's aware of. The problem is that he doesn't have Kaprizov or another guy to pass to. His ability to create so far has been very little. He skates well and has some speed but it's still raw. I would like to see more from him offensively but he's a responsible player intrinsically. Therefore, not a guy who will risk a 1v1 fail. This isn't really a problem but in a game like last night when Tkachuk is dusting off Bogo and Batherson is ripping one-timers, you can see that MN's smallish guys and dipsy-doodler Boldy are not without flaws. A healthy MN Wild team is different but there's still holes. NoJo out has been a pleasant surprise.

It was pretty egregious penalty for a 5 time suspended, 7 time fined player. The refs watch him, and watch him closely due to that and also because I don't think he's actually endeared himself to them either with his mouth. Does what he did on the faceoff happen relatively regularly throughout the league? Yep. Are there more dangerous things (boarding, dangerous cross-checks) that I wish were called? Yep. I just wish they'd just call the damn game by the rules then we wouldn't need as many "messages" aside from a cleanly played physical game. I don't want the 80's and 90's back. Sorry, but not sorry. I like Hartman...when he's not just running around and playing with some skill, which he has. Bottom line, he was running around the entire night because another agitator got the best of him (not the first time) and now he put his team in a bad spot with his upcoming suspension and cap issues. I wasn't completely opposed to his extension, though I'm now rethinking that position because it appears that the skill may be downward trending on the first year of the deal. If this is what we're going to get, I don't want it.
