Yotes4ever Verified Member
Minnesota Wild Goaltender Filip Gustavsson has been fantastic this season for the Wild, and there is no doubt that he has earned his spot as the number one starting goaltender for the Wild. In the summer of July 2023, Gustavsson signed a three-year $11.25 million contract that extends until the end of the 2025-26 season. With Fleury retiring after the 2024-25 season, should Bill Geurin pursue signing Gustavsson to a longer contract? Gustavsson had a little below-average season last season, recording twenty (20) wins and eighteen (18) losses, with a .899SV%, but it seems he is a completely different player this season, as he has posted statistics of a Vezina trophy candidate. With a record of eighteen (18) wins and only six (6) losses, not to mention his .926SV%, he has proved that he is the #1 starting goalie between him and Future hall of famer Marc-Andre Fleury. We simply can not forget that Gustavsson also has a goal and assists this season. (Source: nhl.com) After a season like Gustavsson's had, Bill Guerin should consider giving Gustavsson a long-term contract after his current one is up; however, locking Faber up for an 8x$8.5 million contract and adding Yakov Trenin to a 4x$14 million contract leaves Guerin with roughly $15 million to sign forwards, defensemen or one goalie. Jesper Wallstedt is also on his radar, as he has been called up a few times here and there for the Wild. Gustavsson has proved that he is a top goalie, and I think Bill Guerin should pursue signing him in the long term because of that.
