Learn2spell brought up an interesting candidate in Voronkov. He seems to be doing well. Would it be shocking if Billy makes a play for him and moves Rossi? I don't know if he'll rock the boat that much but....

I saw it and looked him up, guy's a monster! Unfortunately, I do not share L2S's logic. Voronkov is a 4th round pick who is succeeding in the N. This is not the guy you trade away, you trade away one of your top prospects if you have to, but you keep this guy.

CBJ has a lot of problems, but Voronkov (and their center depth) is not one of them. Boone Jenner, and James van Riemsdyk are the guys you move here, and likely guys who can get you a good pick. Voronkov is a guy you move up into the lineup, probably in Jenner's spot. Could be another Tage Thompson.

oh right, they definitely SHOULD keep him. But will they?

What if he can win with Rossi? Then you're in a conundrum.

sure, he can win with Rossi. he just needs someone to protect him (protect Kap) so that he can play and win it all. Kap is not here to babysit Zuccy and Rossi (see baby Rossi jumping into Ek's arms? cute but that's reg season, not playoffs).

Do they have right-left wrong or something?

badly

right defenders are Faber, Spurgeon, Bogosian and Jiricek

left defenders are Middleton, Brodin, Chisholm, Merrill, Dermott and Lambos

Buium is a lefty, but I think he plays either side and may prefer his off side.

I was wondering why this topic was still going days later.  But then I remembered two things: Rossi's a big success, and ODC having a fucking fit about it.

If I can offer a stupid solution to this: we (as in us posters) know jackshit about how this team should, does, and will operate.  We can speculate until our cheeks, balls, and asses turn blue, but it won't make a bit of difference.  All we can do is watch a team play game in, game out, and whatever happens happens.

The only "truths" right now are this: The Wild are winning despite injuries.  Rossi is one hell of a reason for that.  You keep the players who help you win, and he's doing that.  Asking whether or not his size will or won't protect some other player is pointless.  A player can get beat up, punched in the face, fallen on, slew footed, or just sneeze hard or pick up their fucking garbage wrong.  We aren't in the room with these people.  Never will be.

The other truth is we don't even know the Wild will make the playoffs.  There's evidence to suggest they will given half the season, but they could all get roflstomped by every team going forward.  You know what is also true?  They may not.  Funny thing.  Rossi may score GOALS against the teams that ODC and other doubters hate and fear so much.  He's proven capable of beating lots of top teams because that's what good players do.

I've been saying from day one that Kap is the priority.  I would like Rossi to get his due.  And have it done soon.  But the reality is I don't know what plans Guerin can and can't do.  But I have seen what other teams in the past tried when they were "winners" and it wasn't pretty.  The Wild are ahead of schedule.  That's great.  But what money, what players, what things can they even work with?  You want to add some crazy contract to the mix that will make Rossi or Gus unsignable later?  I'd rather not.

There's a chance the team can win every game for the rest of the season or fall on its face.  I'm content in the knowledge that I've seen what happens when people chase their own tails.  I'd rather they not do that.  Forgive me for seeing today's truth for what it is: today's truth.  Call me a buyer if the Wild can get a 10 game winning streak with all that's going on right now.

i read it as IS an idiot.....well idiot or not - sometimes GM makes a move just to rejuvenate "hope" in the fans and owner and prolong their job. maybe he does that and sell his vision....

He's new on the job, so he's got grace there. The fans have also had to buy into a rebuild, especially when they lost Gaudreau in that horrible accident. Voronkov can play and he puts them one body closer. They've still got things to fix, but Voronkov isn't going anywhere. When you're a GM, you hope for hits like this, and everyone knows that Voronkov would be a great asset in a playoff series.

Waddell left the Canes for this opportunity. He did well taking over for Francis who built a great core. He's still learning the organization, unless he's getting Chicago's unprotected 1st in 2025, he's keeping Voronkov.

Also note, Waddell's main issue right now is needing to fill cap space. I'm sure he'll be a retaining 3rd party at the deadline. Now, this could be a team that could take on a lot of a Forsberg contract for Shooter. I'm thinking they will want to sell some of their older players and completely redo the culture. They are near the cap floor so obviously they will be retaining some on their older players. Provorov may be a key acquisition for somebody.

I think Shooter'd be better served on what CBJ could retain on Forsberg or Tuch! Shooter already has a relationship with Waddell.

Looking forward, CBJ could also swallow a Spurgeon contract, and give Spurgeon an opportunity to mentor a young bunch. He would be useful to Evason in this role as he knows what Evason expects and his system. I may be a bit over my skis here, but if Jiricek works out and fills that 2nd pairing next season, this could be a good landing spot and role for Spurgeon. With all the high picks they've had, this is a very talented but young roster. CBJ currently sits 1 point out of a playoff spot.

look at all these good nuggets from you! nice job sir 🙂

well that's too bad about Voronkov being almost untouchable....it almost seems like we would have to do something (ir)rational and unpredictable and entice them to trade....like maybe include a figure skater to the deal .... who says no to this deal? yeah this is way out there....BUT -

Boldy and Rossi for Voronkov and Marchenko

Kaprizov gets the Russian Five of his own with Marat and Yurov added to the mix

Maybe he and Shooter had a bet early on in the season. The winner of the 2 games gets to shaft the other GM in any deal! Guerin calls in his bet winnings. Waddell thought it was just Jiricek, but, no, he gets Voronkov too!

Kiril wants to win.

And this team is showing they can do that even when Kap is gone. It is a good thing for the relationship between Kap and the team.

Kap was playing better than ever with Rossi as his 1C. Rossi is excelling even when Kap isn't there. Why would Kap want Rossi not on the team? In fact, Rossi having a banner year is likely making a better case for Kap to stay, just like our defense clicking and our goaltending standing up will also continue to make the case. Rossi has got the majority of his goals in front of the net so I'm not sure where you are getting this Rossi is going to get destroyed in front of the net in playoffs from.

Truth is, as nice as it would be to get Tuch or this Columbus beefcake, we have no cap room. We has very little that we can add without subtraction, and very few players that we are willing to part with outside NMC's and NTC's. not sure this is the year we will make a big add at the deadline, and I am okay with seeing how this team does post season with this same roster. If we can get everyone decently healthy, I like our odds against any team, other than Winnipeg.

neverending with you Rossi fan boys. just like Freddy J. - you too need to buy a poster of Rossi and look at him all you like.

You smarties think Wild can win a series against Jets/Avs/Stars with top 6 - Kap/Zuccy/Rossi, Ek/Boldy/MJ? Go look at their record against them (it's in this thread) You think Kap will survive? Who out of the top 6 is going to help him?

if we don't beef up our Top 6 = there is NO chance. And that's a must for Kap to sign. I could care less about Rossi right now. Play the game and wait your turn. You are not a priority.

OOOOH maybe Rossi will hug the opposition until they give up? Yes!

i forgot heater too. oh how delusional we all were when him and seto joined the team!

All this trade Rossi talk is reminiscent of when the North Stars sent Bobby Smith to Montreal in return for Keith Acton and Mark Napier. Bobby Smith was smooth skating high scoring center but the North Stars wanted to get bigger and tougher. They had to the league was just different then. The Blackhawks and Blues were just knocking the snot out of them. Enter Willy Plett the kryptonite to Al Secord. The league today is nothing like it was then.  You had some real neanderthals roaming the ice with ill intent in those days.  Yes I'm old enough to remember all of this.

Acton was no bruiser a quick search finds out he is 5'8" and 170 which made the whole thing seem odd. But Acton could put the puck in the net he had some good seasons with the North Stars. Of course that did not bring us to the promised land either.

Fanboy? Heck yes! I cheer for the entire Wild team and will damn well get excited when our second year player starts lighting it up and will damn well rub it in your face for saying he was too small, then a complete passenger, then he wasn't playing against top lines and now it is but he will get rolled over in playoffs. Just keep moving those goalpost so he can prove the great ODC wrong again.

For my reasons in my previous post as well as cap reasons in the upcoming season to fit everyone. I don't want them to go for broke this season. I think it is short-sighted to think this is their only shot when our team is getting steadily younger as our prospects come in and prove themselves.

Frankly, I find you to an alarmist, abrasive and ill-informed. I've been on this site a long while and have usually found people here to be great even when I had a spirited disagreement with them. We would eat crow on our fan theories when needed and continue on. You're raving I find hard to abide and, by the comments in previous threads, I doubt I am the only one. This will be my last engagement with your comments. I comment here for fun and usually enjoyed it but find myself frustrated more than anything with this back and forth.

Cheers,

TGAL
