However, there is a noticeable difference in outcome depending on who is missing. Let's consider the following scenarios: Scenario #1: Ek is out of the lineup, but Kaprizov is healthy. Scenario #2: Both Ek and Kaprizov are out. Scenario #3: Kaprizov is out, but Ek is healthy. The narrative has always been that Kaprizov is the MVP of this team, yet the on ice performance would seem to indicate Ek is more important. The team seems to have a completely different identity when Ek is factored in. They just beat both the Capitals and Hurricanes with no Kaprizov. During the games Ek missed, they struggled to win (including blowout losses).
