here's the 2015-2016 VAN draft the year Brackett began as head of scouting

I see more rough than diamonds over his tenure.  So why are we supposed to buy the Brackett hype.

HOT TAKE: Brackett leaves Wild to pursue other opportunities (ie restaraunt business) prior to 2026 draft.

When Jiricek finally comes on the squad, don't be surprised if he is given a 3rd pairing role. He'll need some time to get acclimated. A 3rd pairing role at this time doesn't mean he'll be staying there. My hope is he's ready to role by mid March.

According to the scouting reports, the guy is a hits monster. That's a plus that will endear him to the fans. Also, something that goes untalked about is that the Wild's current system makes sure if a defender rushes the puck, a forward covers back. I don't believe they had that in Columbus, thus, when he got caught up, nobody was covering for him and it was glaring.

If the reports are accurate, it may be what Guerin has been trying to do all along: when he moves someone, he tries to put them in a position to succeed. This may be what Waddell tried to do too. Players talk and players know when a GM has their backs.

The more I hear about him, the less I like the price we paid.  It seems like all he really has going for him that can currently translate to the NHL is a bit of size and a bomb of a shot.  I don’t really care about being right shot much if you can’t skate and move the puck.

It's more complicated than "can't skate." He can go on the attack and move the puck well, his problem is that he struggles transitioning from offense to defense when it goes back the other way quickly.

Yes I’ve heard this and this is a concern for a defenseman.  Not so much for a forward.  Want to see him play to see how bad this issue really is

Unfortunately Chisholm is on a one-year deal so I'm not sure we'll see him stick around past this season. Once Buium makes the jump, he's the 7th D at best.

Maybe they could trade Chisholm for Shai Buium and get back to a player who has an entry level contract? Shai, pick# 36 in 2021, has size too(6'3" & 209 lbs), but I'm not sure Detroit would let him go for immediate help on defense.

guess you could say Knies and Stankoven are considered misses

Stankoven is tiny and was injured in his draft year. It was clear he had high a high skill level, but nobody knew if he'd be able to transition to the NHL and still play at a high level given his small stature.

Hard to understand why Knies wasn't a 1st rounder though. He had size and skill. The Wild took Peart 3 picks ahead of Knies. That's a big win for Toronto!

Toronto followed up that 2021 draft steal by snagging Fraser Minten, a 2-way center, early in the 2nd round of 2022(teammate of Bankier at the time), and he's already playing for them too.

Guerin has gone on record to say trying to "win" trades by any means necessary or rip someone else off does little more than piss people off later on if they negotiate again.

and this may have been exactly where the other GM was with Waddell. If I'm guessing, I'm thinking Lou.

What's the miss? Two great centers and you can't draft everyone.

Originally, and probably still, I thought the height difference would make Lundell more like Ek, but he hasn't really filled out the weight, at least, officially. Official measurements have Rossi actually heavier. I'd have to see Lundell to verify that, but he does so much dirty work the cameras are usually not on him.

Knies was in our own backyard and whiffed on taking him? On Pewter's sheet, this gets double negative points. You know what gets triple negative points, picking some no-name defender over Matthew Tkachuk. In fact it may even be more than that. Tkachuk was a layup. Tkachuk was like taking Barkley on the playground with 10 year olds. All you had to do was spell his name right and immediately head to the platform. I guess Tkachuk wasn't a smooth skater.

Yeah that defender over Tkachuk is a little baffling and was a huge miss. Would like to know the story behind that one if there other details to it or he was a straight bust like Yakupov.

Knies is a miss but it's not like the Wild were the only team that let him slip to #57.

I'm not Judd's burner account or think he's the gospel by any means but hindsight is always 20/20 and there's always going to be woulda, coulda, shoulda's no matter which team's scout you're evaluating. Wild didn't exactly have a draft wizard before he came in either. If in 1-3yrs if some his picks don't start making contributions then I'll get on P-Trains terminate Brackett wagon but until then we don't know.

Is that Zeev's bro?

Kearney, NE, is around 3 hours West of Omaha, NE, so I'm not sure that counts as being in the Wild's back yard. Knies didn't play for the U of MN until after he was drafted. He was with the Tri-City Storm in Kearney, NE, ahead of the 2021 draft.

It's official: I am no longer in the trade Rossi at TDL this year for a top six wing.  I vote we give this kid a bridge deal that makes both sides happy, Rossi bets on himself for his next contract, and we keep him on our team for a dependable secondary scoring option.

Rossi always seems to find ways to win the team games.  Kap does it more often, but I don't think any other player on the team has the knack for clutch assists or goals like Rossi does.  Boldy did early, but Rossi seems more consistent in that area.

Kap and Boldy are the best overall scorers, but give me #23 whenever the Wild HAVE to get a goal somehow.
