PNW Wild Verified Member
If Trouba is on the second pair for this team... they are sunk. He is an anchor, yes physicality is great, but not if you can't play. He is similar size to Jon Merrill and has a worse CORSI % and gets paid $8m a year... no thanks.
mnfaninnc Verified Member
I was talking to a NYR fan in the parking lot at a Walmart this summer. Apparently, Trouba was being traded and has been on the block for a long time. He vetoed it. The Rangers fan was beside himself saying "who the %^^ stands up to management like that?" His game has declined and he's only 30. It would appear as if Trouba will be one of those guys whose career ends early. $8m is a lot to think about. Even if NYR retains 50%, we still have to come up with $4m to shrink. So, Zach Bogosian is part of this....isn't Zach Bogosian essentially the same player for a lot less? NYR has been looking to shed cap. Let's remember how they treated Barclay Goodrow. They're kind of desperate, and getting that $8m off the books would help. Trouba has 15 teams to veto. He really wants to stay. I'd say a guy like Jiricek is far more appealing since that's a guy we can build with in the new core. He's cheaper and part of a core that's coming. Do we need more protection for Kaprizov? I'd like to see Bogosian get a little meaner. I'd also like to see Trenin get a little more physical. Trenin looks like the wrong guy on this team to piss off. One thing that was hard to understand in the article was it seemed like Kalisha was putting Trouba on the 2nd pairing with a ghost. Was Spurgeon supposed to play 3rd pairing with Brodin? Buium isn't here yet, so there would be plenty of time where Trouba would need his pair. I'm not really in favor of putting Spurgeon and Brodin on the 3rd pair. So, I'm concluding that Trouba is a no, Jiricek is the target.
