Article: Wild Drop In Overtime Against Chicago

Not too disappointed about the loss,  but should still be able to grab 2 from Chicago.

I believe it was Boldy that hit two posts on a shot shortly before the equalizer that was extremely unlucky.  The defense uncharacteristically gave up an unchecked shot in the slot while Gus was heavily screened that led to Chicago’s goal.  Chicago’s goalie also gave up nothing that could be construed as soft (no 5 hole openings, short siders, etc.), which is probably a bit of an anomaly in itself.  He looked good, but hasn’t given up fewer than 2 goals all year.  Could’ve easily won that game handily.

The one gripe I have was the poor overtime showing.  Likely tired at that point.  But, starting out with Kaprisov, Ek, and Faber against a relatively soft first group for the Hawks (no Bedard) and not even getting a good look is very disappointing.  There’s no reason to drop a game to them 3 on 3 with the skill players and puck moving defenders we have.

few observations -

Ek may be hurt or is a experiencing a bit of a slump, hopefully it's not an injury

Trenin - yes he is a bit better, but not by much! still has horrible hands and speed

Lauko and Marat are awesome and last night were our top line. give marat the C already.

Giving a way a point to CHI may not seem much now, but when you look ahead to eventually playing COL, WIN, NAS, and DAL, and LA and Vegas too..... many many many times - well we need to bank in as many "freebies" as possible against loosers like hawks.  the real test is coming after MTR game - they need to get 2 pts.

Finally - Is Bedard tinier than Rossi? HAHA he sure did not look like a poster boy for new NHL - looked like nothing special. and they got teravanya for him to play with? makes zuccy and rossi look like a giant line.

I'll add the observation that Gus is why that game went to OT, in general, this season I'm much more at ease when Gus gets the net vs. Flower.  Looks to have a confidence/swagger out there right now that's got him playing good.

Also, I know Kaprizov is a physical wonderkin who never tires, but how it's a long season and I'm not super stoked seeing him skate 25 minutes against Chicago at this point in the season...
