Pewterschmidt Verified Member
Memo to Foligno: do your talking on the ice by pounding that guy. I know you’re in the running for the Rocket Richard now, but your job is to get that pound of flesh. 4
Protec Verified Member
It's called gamesmanship. Hartman is the only player who has it. Foligno is a whiner who get's too frustrated. Since when have you EVER seen refs reverse course or improve after being yelled at??? Rhetorical question cause never that's why. It's the reason "Grit" is such a joke for MN. That isn't their identity at all. You've got soft-spoken Spurgeon, and a band of Euros who have plenty of skill but zero NA-style pot-stir ability. Check this vid from dooftube-guy. Perfect illustration of what the Wild lack. You don't turn this on and off. Some players have it, others don't. Foligno had a nice game against Philly, and I don't think he's wrong. Just that MN's makeup isn't suited for battle-hockey. They need a skill and pace game for success which is why they always get bounced in the playoffs.
Protec Verified Member
Ek should get some credit for gamesmanship too, but it's subtle. He's become more of a complete player and is more along the lines of a Barkov production wise. Albeit Barkov scores prettier goals. They're too valuable and take less risk mixing it up. Foligno should really get in their early and get them fixated on him for the road game. Duh. In Foligno's defense, it was 2-rip Flyers before he got a shift. 😀
mnfaninnc Verified Member
Philly comes to MN December 14th, another afternoon game. This is not about going after a hack like Hathaway. This is where you make Konecney's life miserable, Couterier's life miserable and their other scorer. Hit them hard and often. You get last change, you can dictate who you put out there against this line. Who cares about Hathaway, get the guys who can hurt you! Note to Marcus: Look at the logo on the front, not the name on the back. Take out the pieces that are a threat. Start doing this and other teams will take notice. You run Kaprizov, your leading scorer heads down the tunnel. Mess with Zuccarello, your little guy is crumpled in the corner. Why take DesLaurier off the ice, the more TOI for him, the better off we are? Why go after Hathaway? One thing you can count on from the Phlyers, though, they all have each other's backs. I'm not certain we've gotten to that level. We still have too much dependency on referees to call games right. Sometimes, you have to simply melt down and embarrass referees. December 14th might be one of those times (although, in front of all the kids might not be the best look for the team).
TheGoosesAreLooses Verified Member
Completely agree MNfan, that was the down and dirty game we really want to see Foligno show up and staple some people. Skill guys. Make them afraid to touch the tough areas. Philly was doing a good job of it all night. Going after the other 4th line grinders/tough guys really does nothing for us short of turning momentum.
