Article: The Wild Have A Liam Öhgren Conundrum

Recommended Posts

2nd period and another noticeable shift by MaRat.  his effective pressure is unlike 89's 'pressure' where 89 is just kind of following the puck around the ice always a second late.  22 is often 1/2 second ahead of the play forcing opponent into a pass that creates the turnover.

Pewter Prospects has MaRat as the top prospect to watch this season.

Guerin spends about 10 min in the booth in 2nd with Carts and Panther.  He paints a good picture of his philosophy for team chemistry and keeping players he likes around and creating an environment where players want to stay here.  My GDS is in remission...I drank some of the kool-aid.

Ohgren will be fine.

- It's a waiting game until Mojo gets traded or it's next year and the contract expires.

- They obviously don't want Ohgren riding pine in the press box, which is why Jones or Boyd get first dibs in that spot.

- Injuries are bound to happen.  Guess who is likely #1 on the call list?

He is splitting time with Nojo in practice?  I still have hope.

Wish NoJo the most debilitating minor injury possible without long-term consequences other than making him unavailable to the Wild for the next 82 games.

That caught my eye as well. We can only hope.

Hope, might not cut it. Gonna need to sneak the Lloyd Christmas technique into NoJo's coffee.

Send Nojo packin.

Put him on a Mo-Ped, and point him towards Aspen.

The more I think about it, perhaps these jokes should be directed towards GMBG and Hynes. They're the ones who keep playing #90.

Ohgren can learn and develop on the Ekker line and excel. He does not need to spend time in Iowa learning the same thing. He is only 20 and has only played a handful of games in the US, but still excels with quality line mates. NoJo will never again be a consistent producer. Boldy-Ek-Ohgren makes a very talented and large line that can score and defend. With NoJo, the line will have a 2-man effort.

I keep wondering why NoJo continues to get 2nd line time. There has to be something Hynes/Guerin see there as they are in the best position to make those calls. I just don't see it. His zone entries end up with a turnover 99% of the time. He's not a scoring threat and I don't see him as a playmaker. What value does he bring that we aren't seeing from the couch?

Are the Wild a better team with Nojo or Ohgren on that 2nd line. Even though Ohgren has disappeared a few times on lines where he didn't have the support of Ek or others, he has been more effective on offense and defense than Nojo when he is supported. Being on that 2nd line should speed up his development and confidence compared to playing on the 4th line or going back to Iowa. As Enforceror said, unless BG and Hynes have a bigger long-term plan or they're trying to put Nojo in a place to trade him for beer money, what are they seeing.

Heard the best Corsi-for forward lines against the Black...hawks* were:

Kap - Rossi - Zucky  87.5%
Ogie - Ek - NoJo 84%
Trenin - Hartzy - Foli 81%
Loco - MaRat - Frauddie 78%

*Note: it was the Hawks and they SUCK.

Please replace NoJo (not Ogie) with Boldy when he's back from injury.

The OBE line could be pretty faboom IMO. (Ogie, Boldy, Ek) 😁

NoJo was good at Worlds. What's going on at the NHL level is the big question. He is a non-factor against CHI, so which team WILL he be good against? I know it's clown-world when NoJo gets 17min TOI but doesn't stand out or get on the scoresheet.

I think they see Ogie squeezing carbon fiber out of his stick and can he go 82 NHL games mentally? He's still pretty young. I don't think they wanna send him to the AHL like with Rossi.

I sense they want him to make it like Rossi but Jones is more mature and has had a scoring touch. Having Ogie in a top role in IA shouldn't hurt. Rossi did it and even Ek started slowly. I like Ogie over NoJo all day. Ogie, Boldy, Ek would be a nice mix of talents, speed, skill, power, size. I just don't know that Ogie is ready for the big stage yet. He could get confidence and play NA hockey for a year or come in halfway. My thought is, do you send him down like Rossi after a slow start, or just put him at the top of IA's lineup straight away? The Wild have some decisions to make and sticking with NoJo is mind-boggling. Ogie should really be a L2 guy over NoJo. An OBE combination seems like it would work well.

I also like this line. I didn't think OG looked out of place at all. Not wow-ing anyone yet but I think he belongs in the N.

Hynes' interview today alluded to decisions still not being made regarding who is going to Iowa. I really do think they're on the fence between NoJo and OG for a spot.
