mnfaninnc Verified Member
There has been expansion talk lately, and if there is expansion, I do believe the playoff format needs to be tweaked. I'd like to see a 2/3 1st round that starts with no rest for the teams involved giving the other teams a 4 day start/practice window. But, then again, I'd also like to see all contests be 3 point games. The prank on Duhaime was excellent. Leaving the care on cinder blocks was great. Perhaps that's why my vehicle has those key bolts on each wheel? I'm not certain I like the transfer to Michigan State for Stramel. Also, for those wondering, Oshawa, the #1 seed in their conference in the OHL squeaked by their opponents in 7 games. Saginaw, Moose Jaw and Prince George all swept. Metallurg plays later today up 2-1.

Nightingale has done a fabulous job at MSU. He basically revived a dead on arrival program in two years. If anyone can get Stramel going I the nk it is Nightingale.

I have always felt that way since they moved to the 2 points for an OT/shootout win and 1 point for OT/shootout loss. For the playoff seeding, I don't know why divisions matter. Just take all 8 teams and seed them 1-8 based upon standings points, head-to-head results, conference record, and/or goal differential, if still tied after looking at the other tie-breakers. The 2nd best team in the conference should not be facing the 3rd best team in the conference in round 1, but that's likely to happen in the East this year.
Will D. Ness Verified Member
I can see the value of winning a division, but after that then 3-8 by record and tie-breakers.

My plan would be extending the playoffs to 10 teams/conference. Essentially, 4 WC teams battle it out in a 2/3 series format. Game 1 is on the road for the higher seed, with 2 and 3 at home. Game 1 comes with 1 day rest after the regular season is over, travel day, Game 2 is the 3rd day and game 3 is the 4th day. Day 5 is a travel day for the winners, and day 6 is Game 1 of round 2. WC1 plays WC4, and WC3 plays WC2. Lowest remaining seed goes to Conference top seed, highest remaining seed goes to division champ on the other side. To start off the 2nd round, 2 vs. 3 in the division plays on day 5 (that will give the networks 4 games/night). I think it is a travesty that NYI could still make the playoffs with their record and 15 OTLs. They would clearly not be better than 3 teams beneath them in the standings. All games will be 3 point games. This gives some teams the option to pull their goalie in a tie game and try to capture 3 points in regulation. It also makes the final 5 minutes of a tie game much more intense. I like the divisional format best because it encourages divisional rivalries. These are very important, and help the game, especially in the West. In the East you could do 1-10 seeding and it wouldn't mean so much, since the teams are all in closer proximity. mnfaninnc Verified Member
Another 5-2 loss to the Avs. Swept again by a division rival. Late game for me, is it even worth watching the replay? I see Goose was in net. Went to bed with the game tied at 2, 5 minutes into the 2nd period. What happened to allow Goose to give up 3 in the 2nd? At the time he was 18/20 in saves. Tell me there was a line brawl and I'll watch the replay 🤩
mnfaninnc Verified Member
I forgot to report, Metallurg lost game 4 and are tied at 2. Yurov scored his 4th of the playoffs, though.

Nathan McKinnon vs. the Wild's D on the long change happened. Specifically on the Avs 3rd goal, Middleton iced the puck when he had been on the ice for 2:50 and Bogosian had been on for 2:03. Avs won the face-off, and that was that. Edited April 10 by bisopher Added info

He got zero help from half of the defense corps. It was pretty ugly.
