Imyourhuckleberry Verified Member
Sebastian Cossa was taken several spots ahead of Wallstedt, and I'd like to thank the Detroit Red Wings for that. Cossa has excellent size and could have a decent NHL career, but he hasn't exceeded a .913 save percentage since he was drafted like he had prior to that 2021 draft, when he posted a .941 season. Through 8 games in the AHL this year, Cossa has a .908 save percentage. Also, nice trade by the Wild to move into position for the Wall!
mnfaninnc Verified Member
This was the same path that Kahkonen took too, except Kahkonen was 2-3 years older. He wasn't as good as The Wall is now, but the pattern was 1 year as a part time goalie, 1 year as the 1A where there was a noticeable result from learning. I thought Kahkonen got a bit of a raw deal up here with Guerin, but was very happy with the acquisition of Middleton. And, Gustavsson was an upgrade over Kahkonen. I also thought that Talbot let Kahkonen know he was the backup. So, in following the trend, Kahkonen got about 5 starts with the Wild in his 2nd A season. My hope is that The Wall will get that "debuting" out of the way this season too. At this point, it's nothing more than a taste, and a nice reward for a good run in the A (like a 10 times salary increase), a nice bonus for an A player.

If I were debuting The Wall, I'd do it against the Oilers but at home. Poetic justice, and, I'm sure that Wallstedt has the Oilers circled as a team that overlooked him with their scary goaltending situation.

I can't believe Edmonton traded back instead of taking him themselves tbh!
