Protec Verified Member
Keep it gritty, don't be shittee, on D... The Wild essentially swapped a young offensive minded defender for a bigger, older, stronger defender who defends. The Wild's short-term needs the old grit-factory production that can be an example and elevate young player's toughness and inject the grits. Wish Addison the best but he needed the change as MN needed a change too. Can't ask rookies to be a Jordie Benn/Zack Bogosian type bearded warrior. The Wild need the mature bull, not the growing calf.

I guess I'm not calling that a smart move. Buy hey keep it gritty! Next BG will be trading for the Flyers mascot. Addison was a lot like Dumba. Offensive upside but defensive liability. I feel Addison did not have as much defensive liability as Dumba though. I think Addison will find his place in the NHL and will probably burn us at some point down that road with that shot of his. Btw Fiala has one more point than Kaprizov right now. 😎 Yes, because we can't just let this go already, even after Faber started rocking it. Fiala wasn't staying, without making more than he signed to LA for. He was second fiddle to Kaprizov and shit on by coaches. That would never sit with him. Besides, it was a win win trade: so whatever floats your "what could have been" boat. Still better than sending Gabby away for nothing...

However, I disagree wholeheartedly with the 2nd part of your 1st paragraph. Addison is nothing like Dumba. Dumba while he would make boneheaded plays was MUCH more physical, could win board battles, not get pushed around in front of the net and was way more skilled in his skating and his stick skills. Addison is/was MUCH more of a liability in the d-zone than Dumba was. No coincidence our D corps got worse after he left. Didn't always love the guy but he was a solid player, a lot of folks don't give him the credit he deserves and often used him as a scapegoat.
Luke Sims Hockey Wilderness Contributor
This is Ryan Suter's fault. Probably. 1

TheGoosesAreLooses Verified Member
Wow, just wow. Bogosian is not a defensive stalwart and Addison is better than him in every metric imaginable. Addison is also younger and has an upside. Bogosian is old, slow and racks up penalties like they are worth points. Calen might not have been what BG was looking for, but they should have been working with what they had instead of bringing in another pensioner. The cherry on top of making us older and slower is Bogosian is going to leave us on PK even more, a area where we have struggled consistently. Biggest oof i have seen so far from BG. 1

He needed a change because he was kinda becoming irrelevant. The Wild got a kick at the can and some value from Addison while here. The fact he had a terrible mustache and pissed off Suter has to count for something. A 5th might not be much, but I don't see it as a big need anymore to sell high. Just set him free to San Jose. Guerin is making another move to cultivate a reputation as a very fair GM who doesn't tolerate GF's twitter comments or player's power struggles. Most of us wanna see the reputation begin to include more important wins sooner than later. I'm sorry, but that reputation doesn't mean much other than to veterans that want to play out their twilight years. I doubt Addison sees going to the worst team in the league to get shelled on every night as an upgrade. This wasn't BG being a good guy, it was his incapability in seeing value in any other playing style besides his own. It was choosing another guy for the "room" not the on ice product. This may mean a Merrill/Bogosian pairing on the third line which will be far more prone to being picked apart by anyone that can skate. Edmonton era Lucic would skate circles around these two.
TCMooch Verified Member
Guerin is a fucking idiot and before he is done he will fill this team with high-floor, low-ceiling players that have 60 grit sandpaper in their game because his thinking of success is about 20-30 years old. He will give multiple chances to old players that "play with an edge" but pull the plug on any young player that doesn't pass his grit test. 1

Have no qualms with getting rid of Addison, he was never going to get extended here and seemed to have an attitude issue anyways. He was approaching his ceiling as a player IMO. Our D pipeline is looking good with Lambos, Hunt & Spacek. Guerin is filling the team right now with cheap veterans until the buyouts come off the books. Don't like the guy they brought in so much but he's cheap and will more than likely not be extended. I see this at a complete lateral move. Outside of the Moose extension I don't see the Maroon or Bogo pickups for 1yr as any big deal in the grand scheme.

Agree with this take. This group needs some beef so that we don't get beotch'd night in, night out. And agree Bogo is not a long term solution, just a band aid for this year (like Reaves last year). I don't hate this strategy of bringing in cheap beef with no long term commitment. Would rather see kids come up from Iowa (are we ready to say goodbye to Duhaime. Not effective physically or hockey play wise) to play bottom six minutes for cheap but maybe BG's strategy of bringing in pensioners makes as much or more sense.
